MUSTANG WAS THE ORIGINAL PONY CAR, PRECEDING ITS TOP RIVAL CAMARO BY TWO AND A HALF YEARS, AND

SELLING OVER ONE MILLION UNITS IN THE FIRST 18 MONTHS. IT WAS A SPORTS CAR AT HOME ON THE HIGHWAY AS WELL AS THE RACE TRACK. THROUGH ITS FIRST FIVE GENERATIONS OF NONSTOP

PRODUCTION STYLING VARIED ALONG WITH PERFORMANCE. BUT MODIFIED MUSTANGS LIKE THIRD GEN FOX BODIES ARE STILL FAVORITES AT THE DRAG STRIP. 113 MILES AN HOUR, AND A TOP SPEED OF 164 MILES AN HOUR, EVEN BONE STOCK THIS PONY'S GOT A LOT GOING FOR IT.

BUT EVEN THAT'S NOT ENOUGH FOR THEM. THE SUPERCHARGER PUSHED THE BLOWN MUSTANG TO A 10.97 ET. NOW THINK ABOUT THAT FOR A MINUTE. WE'RE TALKING ABOUT A STREET LEGAL PONY CAR RUNNING IN THE 10'S ON THE QUARTER MILE. BUT LET'S BE REAL! NOW THE G/T'S ALREADY A FORMIDABLE CAR RIGHT FROM THE FACTORY. AFTER DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY THE FRONT WHEELS COME OFF. THEN THE LOWER CLOSE OUT PANEL GOES AWAY, ALONG WITH THE INNER FENDER SPLASH SHIELD.

WE CAN THEN DRAIN THE COOLING SYSTEM AND GET BUSY UNDER THE HOOD. WELL AFTER WE PUT THESE FORD RACING CUSTOM MOLDED FENDER COVERS IN PLACE TO PROTECT THAT FINISH.

(TOMMY)>> THE STRUT TOWER BRACE GETS PERMANENTLY REMOVED. NO ROOM FOR THAT WITH THE BLOWER UNDER THE HOOD. THEN I'LL MAKE A MARK ON THE KBRACE ALONG THE COWL. IT WILL HAVE TO BE CUT LATER ON. IT MIGHT BE A SCARY PROPOSITION CUTTING ON A BRAND NEW CAR, BUT NO WORRIES.

(MATT)>> THE FORD RACING ROUSH SUPERCHARGER DOES COME WITH A THREE YEAR, 36 WARRANTY THROUGH FORD RACING.

(JOE)>> MEANING THAT THESE MODS ARE COVERED AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT VOIDING THE FACTORY WARRANTIES EITHER. WE'RE UNPLUGGING THE AIR BOX AND REMOVING THE MAF SENSOR. AND HERE'S A LITTLE TID BIT ABOUT THAT. NOW YOU NEED TO PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE STEPS IN THE MANUAL BECAUSE SOME OF THE PARTS GET REUSED, OTHERS DON'T. CASE IN POINT, THIS MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR I JUST REMOVED FROM THE AIR BOX GETS REUSED LATER. THE AIR BOX ITSELF, WELL IT'S HISTORY.

(TOMMY)>> WE'LL USE A PAPER TOWEL TO KEEP THE FUEL FROM DUMPING ONTO THE ENGINE WHILE WE DISCONNECT THE LINES. THEN WE CAN REMOVE THE BOLTS THAT HOLD THE FUEL RAIL IN PLACE, ALONG WITH THE STOCK FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM. THEN WE'LL BE SURE TO CLEAN UP THE TOP OF THE INTAKE PORTS. AND THEN TAPE THEM OFF SO NOTHING GETS

INSIDE THE ENGINE.

(JOE)>> THERE ARE BASICALLY FOUR STAGES TO THIS PROJECT, DISASSEMBLY, MODIFICATION, SUBASSEMBLY, AND LASTLY INSTALLATION. FORD RACING PROVIDES A WELL ILLUSTRATED MANUAL SO THERE'S NO CONFUSION ABOUT WHAT GETS DISCARDED AND WHAT GETS REUSED. REMOVING THE WATER PUMP THOUGH IS THE LAST STEP IN THE DISASSEMBLY STAGE.

(JOE)>> WELL I'D SAY WE'RE MAKING PROGRESS WITH THIS SUPERCHARGER PROJECT. THE DISASSEMBLY IS DONE. NOW WE CAN MOVE ON TO SOME MODIFICATIONS THAT WE NEED

TO HANDLE, STARTING WITH THAT KBRACE WE MARKED AND REMOVED FROM UNDER THIS COWL.

(TOMMY)>> YOU MAY BE WONDERING WHY I'M FIXING TO CUT THIS LEG OF IT OFF. WELL I'VE KINDA GOTTA MAKE SOME ROOM FOR THAT SUPERCHARGER. I THINK IT'LL BE WORTH IT.

(JOE)>> WITH THE CUT MADE IT'S A GOOD IDEA TO ROUND OFF ANY SHARP CORNERS FOR SAFETY REASONS. THEN WE'LL DRESS OURS UP WITH A LITTLE BIT OF DUPLICOLOR ENAMEL.

(TOMMY)>> ALRIGHT GUYS, WE'VE GOT TO DO A LITTLE BIT OF MODIFYING ON OUR FAN SHROUD SO THAT WE CAN MAKE SOME MOUNTING LOCATIONS FOR OUR INTERCOOLER RESERVOIR. IT'S NO REAL BIG DEAL. THEY SEND YOU A TEMPLATE. YOU JUST MARK SOME HOLES AND GET TO CUTTING.

(JOE)>> A MECHANICAL PUNCH IS HANDY TO MAP OUT THE CUTS YOU'LL HAVE TO MAKE ON THE SHROUD. ONCE THEY'RE DRILLED, A CARBIDE BIT MAKES SHORT

WORK OF SHAPING THEM, ALL IN THE NAME OF MAKING A MOUNTING SPOT FOR THE INTERCOOLER RESERVOIR.

(TOMMY)>> OH YEAH! ALRIGHT GUYS, WE'VE GOT TO DO A LITTLE BIT OF MASSAGING HERE ON THE FRONT SIDE OF THIS TIMING COVER TO KNOCK THESE BOSSES BACK JUST A LITTLE

BIT SO THAT WE CAN MAKE ROOM FOR THIS TENSIONER ASSEMBLY. IT'S NO REAL BIG DEAL. WE'RE GONNA USE A CARBIDE BIT TO GET US WHERE WE NEED TO GO. WITH ANY OPEN PORTS OR LINES TAPPED OFF TO KEEP THE SHAVINGS OUT WE CAN BEGIN TRIMMING.

TWO OF THESE BOSSES CAN BE TRIMMED WITH THE BIT.

THE THIRD ONE ONLY NEEDS TO BE HALVED. SO A CUTTING WHEEL DOES THE JOB THERE, BUT THERE'S ANOTHER ONE ON THE INTAKE VALLEY THAT HAS TO BE TRIMMED TO MAKE ROOM FOR THE NEW INTAKE. BE SURE TO VACUUM OUT THOSE SHAVINGS.

(JOE)>> THERE ARE THEN SOME CONNECTORS THAT NEED TO BE REPLACED AND REROUTED. THE INSTRUCTIONS LAY IT OUT CLEARLY, SO FOLLOW THEM CLOSELY.

NEXT WE CAN MOVE ON TO THE SPARK PLUGS. PULL OUT THE COIL PACKS AND REMOVE THE STOCK PLUGS. THEY'RE GETTING REPLACED WITH PLATINUM TIPPED ONES THAT DO NOT REQUIRE GAPPING. NEXT THE NEW INJECTORS CAN BE INSTALLED INTO THE NEW FUEL RAIL. THIS UPGRADES FROM STOCK 34 POUND ONES WITH NEW ONES CAPABLE OF 47 POUNDS PER HOUR.

DROPPING THE INTAKE IN PLACE IS A SNAP. JUST FOLLOW THE TORQUE SEQUENCE AND TIGHTEN THEM TO SPEC. BE SURE TO SEAT THE NEW INJECTORS GENTLY.

WELL NOW WE FEEL LIKE WE REACHED A MILESTONE IN THIS PROJECT.

WE GET TO DROP ON THE SUPERCHARGER ASSEMBLY ITSELF, MAKING SURE WE LANDED ON THESE DOWEL PINS. YOU READY?

(TOMMY)>> YES SIR! THE SUPERCHARGER ALSO HAS A TORQUE SEQUENCE AND SPEC, ALONG WITH MANY OF THESE PIECES. BE SURE TO FOLLOW THEM FOR THE PROPER INSTALL. SOME BLUE LOCTITE WILL ALSO HELP KEEP OUR PULLEY BOLTS WHERE THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE.

(JOE)>> THERE'S A THROTTLE BODY SPACER THAT SEATS ON

THE SIDE OF THE SUPERCHARGER, FOLLOWED BY THE THROTTLE BODY ITSELF. THEN WE CAN BEGIN WITH THE ACCESSORY DRIVE. THE FIRST BRACKET INSTALLS OVER THOSE BOSSES THAT WE TRIMMED DOWN, ALONG WITH TWO PULLEYS. THEN WE CAN DROP THE ACCESSORY DRIVE BELT INTO PLACE, FOLLOWED BY THE TENSIONER BRACKET. NOW WE GET TO SLIP THAT NEW BELT OVER THE

SUPERCHARGER PULLEY. WE'LL FASTEN THE WATER PUMP PULLEY BACK DOWN. THEN WE CAN REINSTALL THE STOCK ACCESSORY PULLEY. THE DRIVE ASSEMBLY IS NOW DONE, MEANING THAT THE COOLING FANS CAN GO BACK INTO PLACE.

ALONG WITH THE INTERCOOLER DEGAS BOTTLE, AND THEN THE INTERCOOLER ITSELF. THE PUMP IS POSITIONED BEHIND THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT AFTER A COUPLE OF HOLES ARE DRILLED. THEN THE RADIATOR DEGAS BOTTLE CAN BE REINSTALLED.

(TOMMY)>> WE'RE IN THE HOME STRETCH NOW AND CAN BEGIN ASSEMBLING THE NEW COLD AIR SYSTEM.

THEN THAT TRIMMED UP KBRACE CAN GO BACK INTO

ITS STOCK LOCATION. WE'RE READY TO REFLASH OUR COMPUTER FOR THAT NEW SUPERCHARGER. THE KIT COMES WITH WHAT THEY CALL A DONGLE, AND IT SIMPLY PLUGS INTO YOUR DATA LINK PORT. WITH A USB CORD AND A LAPTOP YOU GO TO THE SUPPLIED WEBSITE THAT YOU'LL FIND IN THE

INSTRUCTIONS, TYPE IN THE LITTLE NUMBER THAT'S ON YOUR CERTIFICATE, AND IT'LL GIVE YOU ALL THE INFORMATION YOU NEED.

(JOE)>> BUT THERE IS A MISSING LINK TO THIS PERFORMANCE UPGRADE. EVEN NATURALLY ASPIRATED HIGH PERFORMANCE ENGINES PERFORM BETTER WHEN THEY CAN BREATHE BETTER. AND WITH A SUPERCHARGER INSTALLED, WELL AN EXHAUST

UPGRADE'S DOWN RIGHT NECESSARY. THE BEST WAY TO GO IS WITH A CAT BACK SYSTEM TO KEEP THINGS SIMPLE AND LEGAL. THIS IS NO ORDINARY CAT BACK THOUGH. IT'S FORD RACING'S QUAD SYSTEM STYLED AFTER THE 2012 AND 2013 BOSS 302'S. IT CONVERTS THE FACTORY RESONATOR TO AN XPIPE FOR WAY BETTER EFFICIENCY.

SPEAKING OF EFFICIENCY, EXHAUST GASES EXIT THROUGH A PAIR OF BOLT ON SIDE PIPES AS WELL AS THE STAINLESS MUFFLERS. REMOVAL OF THE STOCK SYSTEM IS ABOUT THE EASIEST PROCEDURE WE'VE SEEN. FOUR BOLTS AT THE XPIPE, TWO HANGER BOLTS.

AND THEN A COUPLE MORE AT THE TAIL END OF THE MUFFLERS.

THE NEW SYSTEM IS LIGHTER THAN STOCK, AND IT INSTALLS USING EXISTING FACTORY CLAMPS UP FRONT. FOR EXHAUST TIPS POKING OUT OF THE NEW MUFFLERS YOU'VE GOT TWO CHOICES. FIRST OF ALL THESE FOUR INCH POLISHED CHROME TIPS THAT LOOK NICE BUT WE'RE GOING WITH THESE MORE SINISTER BLACK CHROME TIPS. THEY'LL HELP IT LOOK AS GOOD AS IT SOUNDS.

(TOMMY)>> THE TUBING ON THIS SYSTEM IS TWO AND A HALF INCH ULTRA SMOOTH STAINLESS STEEL.

THE KIT ALSO INCLUDES SPECIAL CLAMPS TO COMPLETE THE MOUNTING OUT BACK. THOSE COOL NEW SIDE PIPES MOUNT TO THE XPIPE. THEN BOLT INTO A FACTORY HOLE.

TALK ABOUT AN EASY INSTALL. EVEN WITHOUT A SUPERCHARGER THIS WOULD BE ONE OF THE FIRST UPGRADES THAT YOU WOULD WANT TO CONSIDER FOR A NEW MUSTANG.
