(NARRATOR)>> TODAY ON DETROIT MUSCLE THE GUYS GET DOWN AND DIRTY ON "PROJECT SYDEWINDER" UPGRADING THE INTERIOR FROM THE FLOORS TO THE DOORS, MAKING OUR '81 MUSTANG COBRA READY TO HANDLE ALL THE TWISTS AND TURNS ON THE TRACK.

(TOMMY)>> HEY Y'ALL, WELCOME TO DETROIT MUSCLE. TODAY WE'VE GOT OUR '81 COBRA, "PROJECT SYDEWINDER", BACK IN THE SHOP FOR SOME UPGRADES. WHAT WE'RE PLANNING TO DO IS STIFFEN THIS OLE CAR UP A BIT, MAKING RIDING IN IT A WHOLE LOT MORE COMFORTABLE AND IMPROVE THE APPEARANCE OF IT.

(MARC)>> NOW WHAT TOMMY'S TALKING ABOUT SPECIFICALLY IS THE INTERIOR. AS YOU CAN SEE BY THIS BIG PILE OF STUFF BEHIND ME HERE, THE CAR ALREADY PUKED IT ALL OUT ALREADY. SO HALF THE WORK'S OVER. NOW WE'RE NOT GONNA PUT ALL OF THIS STUFF BACK IN. ACTUALLY MOST OF IT IS GONNA GO IN THE TRASH BECAUSE WE'VE GOT SOME RESTORATION PARTS AND SOME PERFORMANCE GOODIES.

(TOMMY)>> THE FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS IS GONNA BE INSTALLING THIS FOUR POINT ROLL BAR THAT WE GOT FROM AUTO POWER. IT'S MADE OF INCH AND THREE QUARTER 120 WALL DOM TUBING. IT ALSO HAS A COUPLE OF ADDED OPTIONS ON IT, LIKE THIS DIAGONAL BAR FOR ADDED STRENGTH, AND HARNESS BAR AND BELTS FOR THE SAFETY SIDE OF THINGS. NOW WHENEVER YOU'RE INSTALLING SOMETHING LIKE THIS YOU WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU BOLT IT DIRECTLY TO THE FLOOR, NOT ON TOP OF CARPET OR INSULATION. AND WITH MARC HAVING OUR OLD CAR ALL STRIPPED OUT, PUTTING THIS ON NOW JUST MAKES PERFECT SENSE.

IT'S ALWAYS EASIER ON A JOB LIKE THIS TO HAVE AN EXTRA SET OF HANDS TO CATCH THE ROLL BAR AS IT GOES INTO THE CAR. WITH IT IN PLACE WE'LL MARK WHERE THE MOUNTING PADS WILL NEED TO ATTACH TO THE FLOOR BECAUSE THERE'S A SEAM RUNNING THROUGH THERE THAT'S STICKING UP AND IS FULL OF SEAM SEALER. WE'LL SCRAPE THE SEAM SEALER OUT. THEN WE CAN HAMMER IT DOWN FLAT. [ hammer tapping metal ]

(TOMMY)>> AND THEN THE ROLL BAR CAN GO BACK INTO PLACE. I GUESS WE NEED TO DRILL.

(MARC)>> WE'LL DRILL ONE HOLE AND DROP IN A BOLT IN EACH OF THE FOUR MOUNTING PLATES. THAT WILL KEEP THEM FROM MOVING SO WE CAN DRILL THE REST OF THE HOLES AND GET ALL THE BOLTS INSTALLED.

HEY TOMMY WILL YOU PUSH THAT BOTTOM BOLT THROUGH. AND ON THE OUTSIDE THESE PLATES GET PUT ON, WHICH WILL SANDWICH THE CAR'S SHEET METAL, MAKING THIS A STRONG AND PERMANENT INSTALLATION. EARLIER I MENTIONED RESTORATION PARTS. WELL THIS IS ALL OF IT RIGHT HERE THAT WE GOT FROM NPD LINK DOT COM, NATIONAL PARTS DEPOT'S WEBSITE. WE GOT ALL THE SEALS FOR THE DOORS AND THE HATCH AS WELL AS THE TTOPS, WHICH THAT STUFF'S KINDA HARD TO FIND, SEAL PLATES, DOOR HANDLES, AND THE RIVETS TO INSTALL THEM. INTERIOR SCREW KIT AND A BUNCH OF MISCELLANEOUS STUFF THAT YOU'RE NOT GONNA FIND AT YOUR LOCAL PART STORE. WE EVEN GOT THE DASH PAD. NOW THEY'VE BEEN IN BUSINESS FOR OVER FOUR DECADES AND THEY'VE GOT FOX BODY MUSTANG STUFF, BUT OTHER FORD VEHICLES AS WELL. MOPAR AND GM, AND THEY'VE GOT FOUR LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT THE US, AND THEY KEEP ALL THIS STUFF IN STOCK. SO WHEN YOU ORDER IT YOU KNOW YOU'RE GONNA GET IT IN JUST A COUPLE OF DAYS. ANOTHER THING IS ATTENTION TO DETAIL, LIKE THIS HEADLINER THAT'S ACTUALLY MADE FOR A TTOP CAR LIKE OURS. IT'S GOT THE CORRECT UPHOLSTERY ON IT AS WELL. SO IF YOU'RE DOING A RESTORATION YOU KNOW YOU'RE GONNA GET THE RIGHT THING, AS WELL AS THE VISORS. NOW ONE MORE THING WE GOT FROM THEM FOR THE INTERIOR AND THAT'S THIS RUG HERE. WE'RE GONNA PUT THAT IN NEXT BUT TOMMY'S GOT SOMETHING TO SHOW YOU OVER AT THE CAR FIRST.

(TOMMY)>> BEFORE WE GET TOO SLAP HAPPY AND INSTALL THAT CARPET WE'RE GONNA PUT IN SOME BOOM MAT FROM DEI. THIS IS A THERMAL ACOUSTIC CONTROL MAT, AND IT'S PRETTY EASY TO INSTALL. PRETTY MUCH ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS MAKE SURE THAT THE SURFACE THAT YOU'RE APPLYING IT IS DUST FREE, AND THEN YOU JUST PEEL OFF THE BACK AND YOU STICK IT ON. NOW WITH THIS CAR IT'S GOT A HUGE TRANSMISSION TUNNEL AND I BET WE'RE GONNA GET SOME HEAT RADIATING FROM IT. SO PUTTING IN SOME OF THIS MAT IS A GOOD IDEA. AND SINCE IT CONTROLS SOUND, MARC'S GOT SOME BIG PLANS FOR THE EXHAUST ON THIS THING. SO WE'RE GONNA PUT PLENTY OF IT IN HERE. WE'LL CUT THE BOOM MAT TO FIT AND ROLL IT DOWN WITH ONE OF THESE WOODEN ROLLERS THAT THEY OFFER. WE'RE GOING TO APPLY ONE SINGLE LAYER ON THE FLOOR, FRONT AND BACK. WE'RE NOT COVERING EVERY SQUARE INCH, AND THAT'S OKAY. IT'S STILL GONNA DO THE JOB.

(MARC)>> THAT LOOKS NICE! A SHAME WE'VE GOT TO COVER IT UP.

(TOMMY)>> IT'S THE COST OF DOING BUSINESS.

YOU'RE SCARING ME BOSS.

(MARC)>> THINK I'M GONNA CUT MYSELF?

(TOMMY)>> UM HM.

(MARC)>> THAT TIME I DIDN'T. A FEW CUTS TO GET IT FIT AND LOOK AT THAT. NOT BAD!

(TOMMY)>> IF YOU HAVE AN OPTIMA OR ANOTHER HIGH PERFORMANCE AGM BATTERY AND YOU'RE LOOKING TO KEEP IT AT ITS OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE YOU MAY WANT TO CHECK THIS OUT. THIS IS OPTIMA'S DIGITAL 1,200 12 VOLT PERFORMANCE BATTERY CHARGER AND MAINTAINER. IT'S USER FRIENDLY AND HAS AN EASY TO READ BRIGHT BACK LIT LCD GAUGE THAT DISPLAYS CHARGING STATUS, FILL RATE, AND MODE SETTINGS. NOT ONLY WILL THIS CHARGE AND MAINTAIN YOUR BATTERY BUT IT CAN ALSO RECOVER A DEEPLY DISCHARGED UNIT, AND IT CAN EXTEND YOUR BATTERY'S LIFE.

(NARRATOR)>> DON'T GO ANYWHERE! WE'RE DITCHING THE REAR SEAT AND COVERING UP THAT UGLY FLOOR WITH NEW ALUMINUM PANELS, GIVING OUR MUSTANG THAT RACE READY APPEARANCE AND FEEL.

(MARC)>> MAN THAT LOOKS PRETTY GOOD. I'M GONNA GO GET THAT STUFF READY.

(TOMMY)>> SURE THING. NOW WHILE YOU GUYS WERE GONE WE GOT A WHOLE BUNCH OF WORK DONE. WE GOT OUR CARPET LAID IN AND ALL TRIMMED UP. WE'VE GOT OUR SIDE PANELS, KICK PANEL, AND QUARTER PANEL PIECES IN. IT TURNED OUT PRETTY NICE. NOW THE NEXT STEP TO THIS PROCESS MARC'S GOT RIGHT OVER THERE.

(MARC)>> WELL WHAT I'VE GOT IS ALL OF THIS STUFF RIGHT HERE THAT WE GOT FROM SCOTT ROD FABRICATIONS. NOW IF YOU'LL REMEMBER WE USED THEM ON THE ENGINE BAY WHEN WE INSTALLED ALL THOSE BLOCK OFF PANELS. ALL THIS STUFF'S MADE FROM ZERO-40 ALUMINUM AND IT'S HAND CRAFTED AND BEAD ROLLED FOR A PROFESSIONAL LOOK AND FOR ADDED STRENGTH. NOW THERE'S SEVERAL DIFFERENT COLOR OPTIONS AND CONFIGURATIONS DEPENDING ON YOUR NEEDS. WE GOT A TRUNK FLOOR, REAR SEAT DELETE, AND DOOR PANELS, AND THE FIRST THING WE'RE GONNA INSTALL IS THIS REAR SEAT DELETE.

SEE IF I CAN DO THIS WITHOUT SCRATCHING IT.

(TOMMY)>> THIS STUFF IS MADE TO FIT DIRECTLY INTO OUR FOX BODY, BUT DEPENDING ON WHETHER OR NOT YOU RUN CARPET OR YOU HAVE OTHER MODIFICATIONS LIKE OUR ROLL BAR, OR JUST BECAUSE NO TWO OF THESE CARS WERE BUILT EXACTLY THE SAME. SOME TRIMMING IS USUALLY NECESSARY.

(MARC)>> LET'S GET THE OTHER ONE IN.

YEP, THIS ONE NEEDS TO BE TRIMMED IN THE SAME PLACE DOWN HERE.

NOW IT NEEDS TO BE TRIMMED RIGHT HERE. LET ME GET A SILVER MARKER.

ONCE WE GET IT FIT WE'LL USE A PIECE OF MASKING TAPE TO MARK THE TOP EDGE OF OUR DELETE PANEL SO WE KNOW WHERE TO INSTALL OUR SUPPORT BRACKETS TO THE QUARTER TRIM.

THEY GET RIVETED INTO PLACE AND THE TAPE CAN BE REMOVED.

A NEW PIECE OF TAPE AND A MARKER WILL INDICATE WHERE THE SIDES OF THE BRACKET ARE SO WE'LL KNOW WHERE TO DRILL LATER. WE'LL USE THREE QUARTER INCH MASKING TAPE AROUND ALL OF THE EDGES TO MARK WHERE OUR HOLES ARE GONNA NEED TO BE DRILLED FOR OUR RIVETS. THE TAPE GIVES US A GUIDE BUT ALSO PROTECTS THAT FANCY BLACK ANODIZING FROM THE DRILL.

[ drill spinning ]

(MARC)>> NOW IF YOU'LL NOTICE WE'RE USING THE CLECOS HERE. YOU DON'T REALLY NEED TO USE THESE. IF YOU JUST USE SHEET METAL SCREWS THAT'LL HELP YOU GET EVERYTHING FIT. AND THEN YOU CAN TAKE THEM OUT, PUT THE RIVETS IN.

(TOMMY)>> WE'LL USE JUST ENOUGH CLECOS TO KEEP IT FROM MOVING AROUND SO THAT WE CAN DRILL THE REST OF OUR HOLES. THEN WE CAN REMOVE THE MASKING TAPE AND START INSTALLING THE RIVETS. THESE ARE JUST EIGHTH INCH RIVETS THAT CAME WITH OUR PANELS FROM SCOTT ROD.

NOW WE'LL MOVE ON TO THE TRUNK FLOOR PANELS, WHICH WE'LL INSTALL USING THE SAME METHOD. HOLES...

...CLECOS...

...THE REST OF THE HOLES, AND THEN THE RIVETS.

(MARC)>> THAT LOOKS GOOD. HEY WHERE YOU BEEN, SLEEPING?

(TOMMY)>> MAYBE. I MADE YOU SOME PLATES FOR THESE BIG OLE SPEAKER HOLES. I HOPE YOU LIKE IT AND IF YOU DON'T YOU CAN MAKE YOUR OWN.

(MARC)>> THEY LOOK GOOD. THEY MATCH ACTUALLY. HERE, I'LL PUT THOSE ON. YOU DO THE DOOR PANELS?

(TOMMY)>> WHY AM I GETTING THE SHORT END OF THE STOCK?

(MARC)>> IT'S EASY.

(TOMMY)>> YOU'VE GOT TO MAKE SURE YOU DO THIS RIGHT THOUGH. IT'S UPSIDE DOWN. SAME PIECE.

(TOMMY)>> ARE ANY OF YOU GUYS AT HOME EVER BEEN FIGHTING THE BATTLE OF SHOWING SOMEONE THE INSIDE OF YOUR DRAWERS CAUSE YOU'RE A LITTLE BIT ASHAMED? KINDA LIKE THIS? WELL GOOD NEWS IS I'VE GOT THE CURE FOR IT. THAT WAY WHENEVER YOU'RE ALL SAID AND DONE YOU'LL BE ABLE TO SHOW OFF WHAT YOU'RE WORKING WITH. WHAT WE'RE GONNA USE TO SOLVE THAT PROBLEM IS GONNA BE BUILDING US A TOOL HANGER. WHAT I'M GONNA USE TO DO THAT IS A PIECE OF QUARTER INCH SOLID STOCK HERE AND A PIECE OF ANGLE IRON. NOW THERE'S A FEW THINGS WHENEVER YOU'RE DOING THIS TYPE OF WORK THAT YOU NEED TO CONSIDER. IT'S KIND OF LIKE THE WIDTH OR HOW FAR APART YOU WANT YOUR WRENCHES. IF YOU GET WITH SOME SMALLER WRENCHES YOU KNOW IT'D BE FINE TO HAVE THEM CLOSER TOGETHER, BUT AS THE WRENCH SIZE GOES UP WELL THEY NEED TO BE A LITTLE FURTHER APART FOR SOME BETTER CLEARANCE. WE'VE GOT ABOUT TWO INCHES BUT I THINK TWO AND A QUARTER WOULD BE BETTER.

ALL RIGHT, WE'RE PRETTY MUCH READY TO START MAKING OUR MARKS SO THAT WE CAN HANG OUR HOOKS. NOW WHAT WE'RE PLANNING TO HANG FROM ALL THOSE IS SEVEN MILLIMETER WRENCHES ALL THE WAY TO 20. SO THAT MEANS WE NEED 14 OF THEM. NOW TO DO THAT YOU COULD USE A TAPE MEASURE BUT I HAVE TO SAY SOMETIMES MATH CAN BE A LITTLE BIT COMPLICATED WHENEVER YOU START DOING IT IN TWO AND A QUARTER INCREMENTS KINDA LIKE THAT. SO TO SIMPLIFY THINGS I MADE WE A COOL LITTLE PIECE OF ALUMINUM THAT'S THE EXACT WIDTH OF THAT, AND ALL YOU'VE GOTTA DO IS LAY IT UP THERE, MAKE YOUR MARK, AND MOVE IT BACK. MAKE ANOTHER MARK AND SO ON.

YOU KNOW I GOT TO THINKING, I CAN MAKE THIS THING A DUAL PURPOSE HOLDER AND ALL I'VE GOT TO DO IS MAKE A MARK HERE. TAKE A QUICK TRIP OVER TO THE DRILL PRESS.

[ drill spinning ]

(TOMMY)>> OKAY NOW WE NEED TO CUT US 14 HOOKS. I'M GONNA USE THIS QUARTER INCH ROD AND CUT THESE AT FOUR INCHES A PIECE.

NOW A SMALL TWEAK WITH AN ADJUSTABLE WRENCH.

WITH ALL OF OUR HOOKS BENT NOW ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS TAKE THIS ANGLE IRON, FUSE THEM TOGETHER. [ welder crackling ]

(TOMMY)>> ALL RIGHT, LET'S SEE IF SOME WRENCHES FIT.

WITH THIS FANCY LITTLE GIDDY UP RIGHT HERE YOU GET TO CLEAN UP YOUR DRAWERS AND SHOW OFF YOUR TOOL NO MATTER HOW BIG OR HOW SMALL. NOW THEM HOLES I DRILLED IN EARLIER, CHECK THIS OUT. YOU'VE GOT A PLACE TO PUT YOUR SCREWDRIVER.

(MARC)>> VROOM, VROOM, BRRRRRR!

(NARRATOR)>> COMING UP, MARK IMAGINES LEADING THE PACK AT WATKINS GLEN!

(TOMMY)>> HEY GUYS, WELCOME BACK TO DETROIT MUSCLE. NOW WE'RE MAKING SOME PRETTY GOOD PROGRESS ON THE INTERIOR OF OUR MUSTANG. WE'VE GOT OUR SCOTT ROD FABRICATION PANELS ALL INSTALLED AND THEY GOT THE INTERIOR OF THIS MUSTANG ALL KIND OF DOLLED UP. NOW THE NEXT THING WE'RE GONNA NEED IS SOME SEATS, AND MARC'S GOT THOSE RIGHT OVER THERE.

(MARC)>> TO MEET THE NEEDS IN THE COCKPIT OF OUR MUSTANG WE WENT TO CORBEAU FOR A SET OF ITS SPORT LINE RRS BUCKETS. THESE HAVE A LOT OF THE SAME BENEFITS AND FEATURES THAT YOU'D FIND IN A RACE SEAT, LIKE SIDE BOLSTERING FOR BETTER SUPPORT. ALSO HOLES HERE FOR YOUR RACING HARNESSES TO GO THROUGH, BUT WITH THE ADDED BENEFIT OF HAVING A BETTER FOAM PACKAGE FOR BETTER COMFORT, AND ALSO ADJUSTABILITY OF THE SEAT BACK. THIS IS A LOW PROFILE DESIGN, MEANING FROM RIGHT HERE WHERE YOUR REAR SITS TO THE BASE IS ONLY TWO AND A HALF INCHES. SO THAT'S GOOD IF YOU'VE GOT A SMALL CAR LIKE OUR FOX BODY, OR IF YOU'RE A BIG GUY, OR YOU JUST NEED A LITTLE EXTRA ROOM FOR A RACING HELMET. NOW THERE ARE SEVERAL DIFFERENT OPTIONS HERE. WE WENT WITH THE BLACK VINYL WITH THE DIAMOND DESIGN AND THE WHITE STITCHING. WELL THE SEATS ARE UNIVERSAL BUT THESE BRACKETS ARE NOT. CORBEAU MAKES THESE FOR A LOT OF DIFFERENT MAKES AND MODELS. SO CHANCES ARE THEY HAVE THE ONES FOR YOUR RIDE. THESE ARE SPECIFICALLY FOR MUSTANG. NOW WE JUST NEED TO GET THEM BOLTED IN. ALL WE NEED TO DO TO GET THESE ON IS TO REMOVE THE BOLTS THAT ALREADY COME INSTALLED IN THE BOTTOM OF THE SEATS AND BOLT IN OUR NEW SEAT TRACK.

(TOMMY)>> WHILE MARC'S BUSY ATTACHING THE BRACKETS TO THE SEATS I'M GONNA GO AHEAD AND INSTALL OUR BELTS. NOW TO ATTACH THE LAP BELTS WE'RE GONNA USE THE FACTORY LOCATION HERE ON THE SIDES, AND FOR THE ONES THAT RUN UP OVER YOUR SHOULDERS WE'RE GONNA LOOP AROUND THIS BAR HERE ON THE ROLL CAGE. WE'RE GONNA BOLT THESE LAP BELTS IN ALONG WITH THE FACTORY SEAT BELTS SO THAT WE CAN USE EITHER ONE. AS FOR THE SHOULDER HARNESSES WE'LL WRAP IT AROUND THE HARNESS BAR AND ATTACH IT USING THIS LIGHTNING BRACKET.

(MARC)>> NOW THE DRIVER'S SEAT CAN GO IN, AND WITH IT IN PLACE WE'LL GET ALL OF THE HARDWARE STARTED BY HAND FIRST, AND THEN TIGHTEN THEM ALL DOWN.

NOW OUR SHOULDER HARNESSES CAN GET PULLED THROUGH AND THE BUCKLE TESTED OUT. AS FOR THE PASSENGER SEAT, WELL IT'S GONNA GET THE SAME TREATMENT.

NOW IF YOU REMEMBER EARLIER, TOMMY MADE A NICE BLOCK OFF PLATE HERE FOR OUR TRANS TUNNEL AND WE INSTALLED THIS RING, AND THERE WAS A GOOD REASON FOR THAT BECAUSE WE HAVE THIS SHIFT BOOT HERE AND BEZEL THAT WE GOT FROM AMERICAN POWERTRAIN. IT'S MADE BY FINCH PERFORMANCE AND IT'S GONNA BOLT RIGHT TO THAT RING. WE ALSO GOT THE SHIFTER. IT'S BILLET ALUMINUM, BLACK ANODIZED, REALLY NICE, LIGHTWEIGHT PIECE. IT EVEN HAS A SLOT HERE AT THE BOTTOM SO YOU CAN ADJUST THIS FOR THE DRIVER'S NEEDS. WE'LL GET THIS SHIFT HANDLE INSTALLED TO OUR SHIFTER USING THE HARDWARE THAT CAME WITH OUR TRANS KIT FROM AMERICAN POWERTRAIN. THEN WE'LL INSTALL THESE JAMB NUTS THAT WILL KEEP THEM FROM BACKING OUT FROM VIBRATION OR FROM BANGING THE GEARS. THEN THE BOOT AND BEZEL CAN GET INSTALLED...

...FOLLOWED BY THE KNOB. MAN THAT LOOKS NICE!

(TOMMY)>> THERE'S HIGH PERFORMANCE AND THEN THERE'S ULTRA HIGH PERFORMANCE. TIRES MADE IN THE UHP SEGMENT ARE DESIGNED TO GIVE YOU MAXIMUM GRIP FOR YOUR RIDE, BUT THEY'RE ALL NOT MADE THE SAME. THIS IS THE NEW GENERAL GMAX RS. IT HAS A STRONG CENTER RIB FOR CRISP STEERING RESPONSE, STABILE SHOULDER BLOCKS FOR MAXIMUM GRIP, AND TREAD GROOVES TO ENSURE WET GRIP. NOT ONLY WILL THIS TIRE PERFORM WELL BUT IT'S ALSO DESIGNED TO HAVE LONGER TREAD LIFE, AND IT EVEN COMES WITH AN EASY TO READ TREAD DEPTH INDICATOR.

(MARC)>> WE'VE ALL BEEN THERE. YOU FIND YOURSELF WORKING ON THE FLOOR. YOU'VE GOT TOOLS SCATTERED ALL OVER THE PLACE. WELL WE'VE GOT THE SOLUTION FOR YOUR. THIS IS THE SIDE KICK STOOL WITH TOOL CADDY FROM THE GUYS OVER AT MYCHANIC. IT HAS AN ADJUSTABLE SEAT, A POWER TOOL HOLSTER, EASY TO REACH BINS FOR PARTS AND TOOLS, AND A REMOVABLE TOOL CADDY THAT EVEN HAS A PLACE FOR YOUR PHONE. THEY'VE EVEN UPDATED THEIR POD LIGHT WITH THIS SMALLER RECHARGEABLE VERSION. FOR MORE GADGETS LIKE THIS GO TO MYCHANIC DOT COM.

(NARRATOR)>> UP NEXT WE GIVE OUR DASH AN UPDATE WITH NEW GAUGES.

(MARC)>> HEY FOLKS, WELCOME BACK. WE'RE BUSY WORKING ON THE INTERIOR OF OUR '81 COBRA PROJECT AND WE JUST ABOUT GOT IT LICKED EXCEPT FOR THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. THIS IS THE ORIGINAL CLUSTER THAT CAME OUT OF OUR MUSTANG, INCLUDING THE BEZEL, AND IT'S PROBABLY GOOD IF YOUR CAR IS STILL STOCK BUT WE WANTED TO UPGRADE OURS TO GIVE IT A LITTLE MORE OF A RACY LOOK AND TO BE A LITTLE MORE ACCURATE. SO WE WENT WITH THIS GAUGE SET THAT WE GOT FROM SUMMIT RACING. IT'S MADE BY AUTOMETER. THESE ARE ALL DIGITAL. SO THEY'RE GONNA BE A LOT MORE ACCURATE THAN OUR FACTORY ONE, BUT THEN ALSO THE SPEEDOMETER HERE ONLY GOES TO 85 AND JUST IN CASE WE WANT TO PUSH IT A LITTLE MORE THAN THAT WE'VE GOT IT THERE. WE JUST NEED TO TEAR INTO THIS. FIGURE OUT HOW WE CAN GET THOSE INSTALLED.

WITH THE BEZEL AND LENS OUT OF THE WAY WE CAN DISASSEMBLE OUR STOCK GAUGE CLUSTER.

LET'S SEE HOW THIS FITS. WOW, THAT'S NICE, I LIKE THAT! WE'LL GET THE SPEEDO CINCHED DOWN AND DO THE SAME FOR THE TACK.

NOW THESE TWO LOOK REALLY NICE. NOW I NEED TO FIND A WAY TO MOUNT OUR OTHER GAUGES, AND I THINK I'M NOT GONNA BE ABLE TO MOUNT THEM THE SAME WAY BECAUSE THE WAY THIS BEZEL MOUNTS RIGHT UP TIGHT UP AGAINST THE FACE OF THAT CLUSTER I'M JUST GONNA HAVE TO MOUNT THEM DIRECTLY TO THE BEZEL AND THEN HOLLOW OUT THE FACE OF THE CLUSTER BACK. BUT THIS ISN'T GONNA FIT IN HERE. JUST A LITTLE TOO BIG. SO I NEED TO OPEN THESE HOLES UP FIRST. [ drill spinning ]

(MARC)>> OH YEAH!

WE'LL GET THE OTHER THREE HOLES OPENED UP THE SAME WAY, AND WITH THOSE GAUGES INSTALLED WE'LL TRIM OUT THE FACE OF THAT FACTORY HOUSING.

THAT LOOKS GOOD! WE GOT THESE SWITCH PANELS FROM SUMMIT RACING, AND ONCE WE'VE FIGURED OUT WHERE WE WANT TO INSTALL THEM...

...WE CAN MAKE A COUPLE OF CUTS IN THE BEZEL. SINCE WE WANT THE TWO SWITCH PANELS TO OVERLAP WE'LL CLAMP THEM TOGETHER, DRILL A COUPLE OF HOLES, AND INSTALL TWO BOLTS.

WITH THEM IN PLACE ON THE BEZEL WE CAN THEN DRILL OUT THE FOUR REMAINING HOLES AND INSTALL THE HARDWARE.

AND I'VE GOT TO SAY MAN, THIS INTERIOR TURNED OUT GREAT.

(TOMMY)>> WE'VE GOT ONE LAST REPAIR THAT WE WANT TO DO ON OUR OLD MUSTANG AND THAT'S GONNA BE SWAPPING OUT THESE OLD LIFT SUPPORTS. WE WENT TO ROCK AUTO DOT COM AND GOT US A NEW PAIR. THESE ONLY COST A FEW BUCKS, AND I'M HERE TO TELL YOU SPENDING THAT FEW BUCKS IS WELL WORTH IT IF YOU'VE EVER HAD ONE OF THESE BUMP YOU IN THE NOGGIN. THE OLD ONES JUST POP OFF WITH A FLATHEAD SCREWDRIVER AND THE NEW ONES JUST SNAP INTO PLACE.

LOOK, NO NEED FOR A PROP.

(MARC)>> IF YOU MAKE YOUR LIVING TURNING WRENCHES THEN A HIGH QUALITY OBDTWO DIAGNOSTIC SCAN TOOL IS A MUST HAVE IN YOUR BOX. AND HERE IT IS, THE MAXIMUS THREE POINT ZERO FROM MATCO. THERE'S NO LONGER A NEED TO CLICK THROUGH MENUS TO GET WHERE YOU WANT. WITH ITS TABLET DESIGN THIS IS THE NEXT GENERATION OF OBDTWO SCAN TOOLS. IT HAS WIFI, BLUE TOOTH, AND AN ANDROID OPERATING SYSTEM WITH AN INTERNET BROWSER AND THE GOOGLE PLAY STORE. TIME IS MONEY. SO FOR ALL YOUR MECHANICS OUT THERE AND THE DO IT YOURSELFERS WITH AN LS SWAP SOMETHING OR OTHER CHECK OUT THE MATCO MAXIMUS THREE POINT ZERO. WELL THAT'S ALL THE TIME WE HAVE FOR TODAY. SO UNTIL NEXT TIME CHECK OUT POWERNATION TV DOT COM.
