NOW WE'RE GOING OVER THE CAR TO FIND IMPERFECTIONS, DINGS, DENTS AND WHAT WE DO IS WE LIKE TO MARK EACH ONE WITH A PIECE OF MASKING TAPE AS WE FIND 'EM SO WHEN WE START TO FIX THE CAR, WE ALREADY KNOW WHERE ALL THE DINGS ARE IN IT.

(SCOTT)>> THE NEXT STEP TO THE PROCESS WILL BE TO SPRAY A GOOD TWOPART CATALYZED PRIMER ON THE SURFACE TO FILL SCRATCHES AND ALSO WE'RE GONNA USE THREE COATS OF PRIMER ON THIS SO WE'LL HAVE A GOOD BASE TO BLOCK SAND THIS ON TO MAKE SURE THE CAR'S STRAIGHT.

(JOHN)>> HVLP IS HIGH VOLUME, LOW PRESSURE GUNS. THESE GUNS ARE VERY GOOD AT TRANSFER EFFICIENCY, GETTING THE MATERIAL TO THE SURFACE, NOT PUTTING IT UP IN THE AIR. THESE GUNS ARE VERY ENVIRONMENTALLY CLEAN.
(JOE)>> MEANWHILE, BACK AT STREET LEGENDS, THE BIRD'S BUMPERS GET SEVERAL COATS OF TWOPART EPOXY PRIMER. OH, AND REMEMBER THAT GUIDE COAT OF BLACK PAINT APPLIED EARLIER? WELL NOW'S THE TIME TO BLOCK SAND IT TO FIND AND FIX ANY LOW SPOTS BEFORE THE CAR GOES TO THE PAINT BOOTH. IN THE BOOTH, SCOTT AND RAY AGAIN WIPE THE CAR DOWN WITH GREASE REMOVER TO ENSURE IT HAS A PURE, CLEAN SURFACE TO WORK WITH. THEN, RAY APPLIES A SEALER ON TOP OF THE PRIMERS. AFTER IT DRIES, SCOTT STARTS APPLYING THE BASE COAT PAINT WE SAW MIXED EARLIER AT PPG. THE PAINT, OF COURSE, WILL BE FOLLOWED UP WITH CLEAR COAT. THE CLEAR COAT WILL DRY OVERNIGHT BEFORE A THOROUGH BUFFING AND BOLTING VARIOUS PIECES BACK ONTO THE CAR.

BUT, YOU DON'T HAVE TO PAY A VISIT TO THE PAINT SHOP. INSTEAD, YOU CAN FIX IT AT HOME, AND HERE'S HOW. FIRST, YOU TAKE ONE OF THESE RUST ELIMINATORS THAT WE GOT FROM EASTWOOD TO CLEAN THE ACCUMULATED RUST, DIRT AND WAX FROM THE CHIP. THEN USE THEIR PRO TOUCH MICRO BRUSH TO APPLY PAINT TO THE CHIP. NOW, IT'S GONNA TAKE SEVERAL APPLICATIONS BECAUSE YOU WANNA FILL THE CHIP SO IT'S HIGHER THAN THE SURROUNDING PAINT. ONCE IT'S DRY, USE THIS SANDING SPOOL THAT COMES WITH THE KIT TO SMOOTH IT OUT. THEN, FINISH IT OFF WITH A POLISHING COMPOUND AND A COAT OF WAX TO SEAL IT OFF.
(JOE)>> GREAT TIP. BUT YOUR PAINT'S NOT GONNA SEEM TO SHINE AS BRIGHTLY IF YOUR TRIM'S IN NEED OF ATTENTION, TOO. NOW MOST WINDOW MOLDINGS ARE MADE OF STAINLESS AND YOU CAN BUFF 'EM TO A CHROMELIKE FINISH. THE FIRST STEP THOUGH IS TO GET 'EM OFF WITH A TOOL LIKE THIS ONE. NOW AT THIS POINT YOU CAN EITHER TAKE 'EM TO A METAL FINISHING SHOP OR DO THE WORK AT HOME IF YOU'VE GOT THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT SUCH AS THE BUFFING MOTOR, AN ASSORTMENT OF WHEELS, AND COMPOUNDS. YOU START WITH A MORE AGGRESSIVE WHEEL LIKE THIS SPIRAL SEWN BUFF, USING A STAINLESS COMPOUND AS A CUTTER. [ MECHANICAL HUMMING ] THEN COMPLETE THE JOB WITH A COTTON FLANNEL BUFF LIKE THIS ONE. ADD A WHITE ROUGE COMPOUND FOR A FINAL POLISHING, AND COLOR. [ MUSIC ] MAN, JUST CHECK OUT THE DIFFERENCE. PRETTY AMAZING. NOW YOU CAN ALSO USE COMBINATIONS LIKE THIS STRING BUFF AND PLASTIC COMPOUND TO RESTORE THINGS LIKE YOUR TAILLIGHT, PARKING LIGHT, AND EVEN INSTRUMENT GAUGE LENSES.
