(KATIE)>> WELCOME TO POWERNATION BUILDS. NOW IF YOU'RE A BLUE OVAL FAN AND YOU DIG THOSE CLASSIC PICKUPS, BOY DO WE GOT A SHOW FOR YOU. FROM PIECES AND PARTS TO A DREAM PIECE, HERE'S TRUCK TECH. [ Music ]
(KEVIN)>> NOW IF YOU THINK US SCORING THIS GREAT OLD PICK UP TRUCK IS A ONCE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY, WELL YOU CAN THINK AGAIN BECAUSE THE SAD TRUTH IS FOR EVERY PROJECT THAT YOU SEE AT A CAR SHOW, OR ON THE ROAD, OR AT AN AUTO CROSS, THE TRUTH IS THERE ARE PROBABLY FIVE THAT ARE IN THIS SHAPE, THAT HAVE BEEN STARTED AND STALLED, OR HECK MAYBE EVEN IT TAKES TWO, TO THREE, TO FIVE YEARS TO FINISH A PROJECT. SO THERE'S A LOT OF STUFF THAT'S IN GARAGES, NOT ON THE ROAD, AND JUST WAITING EITHER TO BE FINISHED OR TO BE PASSED ON LIKE ALAN DID TO US TO A NEW SET OF OWNERS POSSIBLY WITH A NEW SET OF GOALS. HOWEVER, YOU CAN TAKE ADVANTAGE OF STUFF THAT PEOPLE HAVE ALREADY DONE AND THE MONEY THEY'VE ALREADY SPENT, AND SAVE YOURSELF TIME, MONEY, AND EFFORT, AND STILL HAVE YOUR OWN TRUCK. [ Music ]
(RYAN)>> ALRIGHT, NOW WITH THE TRUCK AND TRAILER UNLOADED, WE CAN TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT WHAT KEVIN DRAGGED HOME. NOW IT MIGHT LOOK LIKE A BIG EXPLODED MODEL AND A TON OF WORK, AND IT IS, BUT WE'VE GOT A LOT OF GOOD PARTS HERE, AND MOST OF THEM ARE IN REALLY GOOD SHAPE. THIS IS A NICE GRILL. IT'S NOT BEAT UP, BANGED UP, OR RUSTED BUT THE HOOD, THAT'S A LITTLE BIT OF A DIFFERENT STORY. IT'S DEFINITELY GOT SOME PATINA FROM RUST, BUT IT'S FIXABLE, OR WE CAN UNLOAD IT AT A SWAP MEET TO SOMEBODY WHO WANTS A HOOD WITH PATINA. THEN WE CAN JUST USE THAT MONEY TO BUY A NEW REPLACEMENT HOOD. WE'VE GOT SOME AFTERMARKET FIBERGLASS BLOCK OFF PANELS THAT GO BEHIND THE HEADLIGHTS, A GOOD RADIATOR SUPPORT AND UPPER TIE BAR, AND SOME QUALITY STEEL REPRODUCTION RUNNING BOARDS. THOSE THINGS ARE WORTH A FEW BUCKS. WE'VE ALSO GOT A COUPLE OF BOXES FULL OF ODDS AND ENDS. WE'VE GOT HEADLIGHT TRIM RINGS, WEATHER STRIPPING, SOME MARKER LIGHTS, WINDOW FELTS AND GUIDES, HOOD HINGES, AND SOME NEATLY ORGANIZED HARDWARE, WHICH IS A BIG PLUS. IF YOU'RE BUYING SOMEBODY ELSE'S PROJECT, THE MORE NEAT AND ORGANIZED THEY ARE THE LESS TIME YOU HAVE TO SPEND FISHING THROUGH A BOX FULL OF RANDOM ODD AND END PARTS. SO, WE'RE OFF TO A GOOD START. NOW THE FRAME IS ORIGINAL AND IT LOOKS LIKE YOU WOULD EXPECT IT TO BEING FROM THE '50'S. NOW SOMEWHERE ALONG THE LINE SOMEBODY'S DONE AN ENGINE SWAP. THEY'VE GOT DIFFERENT ENGINE MOUNTS IN HERE, THEY'VE TRIMMED THE CROSS MEMBER FOR CRANK PULLEY CLEARANCE, AND THEY'VE MADE A FEW OTHER SMALL CHANGES. SO, WE DECIDED TO GO WITH AN ALLNEW FRAME AND PICKED UP THIS BEAUTIFUL PIECE FROM JW ROD GARAGE. [ Music ] NOW NONE OF THESE PARTS ARE PAINTED OR POWDER COATED. THAT'S BECAUSE WE'RE GONNA WAIT UNTIL WE HAVE THE THING FULLY ASSEMBLED, ALL PLUMBED, AND BRACKETS WELDED ON, AND THEN SEND IT OUT FOR POWDER COAT OR PAINT. THIS IS JUST FOR MOCKUP SO WE CAN MAKE THE TRUCK A ROLLER. [ Music ] NOW THE TUBE ON THE REAR LEG OF THE CONTROL ARM IS JUST A HOLLOW TUBE, BUT THE ONE ON THE FRONT IS THREADED TO ACCEPT THE COIL OVER MOUNT BOLT. I'M USING A RATCHET STRAP TO HELP COMPRESS THE SPRING A LITTLE BIT SO WE CAN GET THE CASTELLATED NUT ON OUR SPINDLE. NOW WITH THE CHASSIS OF OUR '55 F-100 COMING ALONG NICELY, IT'S TIME WE PAY SOME ATTENTION TO THE DRIVETRAIN THAT WE'VE GOT PICKED OUT FOR OUR CLASSIC TRUCK. [ Music ] THIS IS FORD'S 3.5 LITER ECOBOOST TWIN TURBO VSIX. IT MAKES 365 HORSEPOWER AT 5,500 RPM, AND 420 POUNDS OF TORQUE AT JUST 2,500 RPM. NOW TO GET A CLOSER LOOK AT ONE OF THESE WATERCOOLED TURBOS, I WENT AHEAD AND PULLED ONE OFF. LOOK AT THE TURBO INLET, THE PORT IS TINY, IT'S EVEN SMALLER ON THE MANIFOLD SIDE. AND THE TURBINE AND THE COMPRESSOR WHEELS ARE EQUALLY AS SMALL, BUT WITH THE SMALL PORTS AND THE SMALL TURBO, WELL IT VIRTUALLY ELIMINATES ANY TURBO LAG. THIS THING WILL SPOOL UP LIKE RIGHT NOW. NOW TO GO BEHIND OUR HIGHTECH VSIX IS THIS TRIEDANDTRUE TREMEC TKO 600 FIVE SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION THAT WE PICKED UP FROM AMERICAN POWERTRAIN. NOW WE WENT WITH A MANUAL FOR A COUPLE OF REASONS. ONE, I JUST PLAIN LIKE DRIVING A MANUAL TRANSMISSION EQUIPPED VEHICLE THAT MUCH MORE. PLUS, IT KEEPS IT SIMPLE. WE DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT A LATE MODEL ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED AUTOMATIC, IT'S RELATED WIRING, AND CONTROLLER. [ Music ]
(KATIE)>> COMING UP, NOW THAT THE RESTO HAS BEGUN WHERE'S IT GONNA END UP? WELL FRIENDS STICK AROUND AND SEE!
(JEREMY)>> NOW THE LAST TIME YOU SAW OUR '55 F-100 CAB WELL IT SURE DIDN'T LOOK LIKE THIS. WE TOOK IT OVER TO OUR BUDDIES AT BLAST FROM THE PAST IN LEBANON, TENNESSEE, AND HAD THEM SAND BLAST IT FOR US, AND THERE'S A FEW REASONS WHY WE DID THIS. ONE BEING WE WANT A SUPER NICE SHOW TRUCK. THE SECOND BEING IT'S MY PERSONAL PREFERENCE TO START AT BARE METAL. THAT WAY I KNOW WHAT I'VE GOT, AND THE THIRD BEING, WE'VE GOT NEW SHEET METAL ALL OVER THIS TRUCK. SO WHY TAKE THE CHANCE OF GOING OVER SOMEONE ELSE'S WORK ON THIS CAB. NOW AS YOU GUYS KNOW, WHEN WE PICKED THIS TRUCK UP IT ALREADY HAD A CHOP, AND ONCE WE HAD IT BLASTED WE SAW IT HAD SOME OF THE SAME PROBLEMS AS THE FRONT OF THE CAB. THERE ARE JUST NOT ENOUGH WELDS THERE. IT WOULDN'T TAKE LONG AT ALL FOR IT TO BUST ON US, AND PLUS IT'S SO WAVY IT'LL GET YOU SEASICK. NOW STEP ONE IS GOING TO BE RUNNING A WIRE WHEEL OVER THIS FACTORY SEAM. THAT WAY WE CAN GET OUT ANY LOOSE FILLER THAT MAY HAVE BEEN LEFT BEHIND AND WE GET A GOOD, CLEAN WELD. AND LIKE WE'VE ALWAYS SAID, BE SURE TO JUMP AROUND WHILE TACK WELDING. IT IS VERY EASY TO WARP THIS THIN SHEET METAL. YOU DON'T WANT TO PUT TOO MUCH HEAT IN ONE LOCATION. NOW AFTER ABOUT 10 HOURS OF WELDING AND GRINDING, I FINALLY GOT THE FRONT SEAM OF THIS CAB ALL METAL FINISHED OUT, ALONG WITH REFORMING THESE DRIP RAILS. THEY HAD A BIG VALLEY IN HERE THAT THEY HAD JUST HAD BUILT UP WITH FILLER. I WENT BACK IN, DID SOME METAL WORK, AND NOW WE ONLY NEED A SKIM COAT, AND NOW I CAN MOVE ON TO SOME OF THIS OTHER DEFORMED SHEET METAL.
(JEREMY)>> BECAUSE THE BODY WORK STAGE IS SO TIME CONSUMING, WE CALLED IN SOME REINFORCEMENTS.
(LT)>> THE FIRST STEP IS TO MOCKUP THE ENTIRE TRUCK.
(JEREMY)>> NOW WE'RE HAVING A LITTLE BIT OF A CLEARANCE ISSUE WITH OUR UPPER COIL OVER MOUNT HITTING THE BOTTOM OF THIS WOOD. SO, WE MADE EIGHT OF THESE TEMPORARY SPACERS THAT WE'LL GO BACK AND MAKE BILLET OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT JUST TO RAISE THE BED UP WHERE WE NEED IT.
(LT)>> WE'RE GONNA COMPLETELY ASSEMBLE THE CAB, BED, FENDERS, GRILL, AND HOOD.
(JEREMY)>> WE NEED TO MAKE CLEARANCE FOR OUR UPPER CONTROL ARM HERE WITH OUR JW ROD AND GARAGE FRAME AND OUR STOCK STYLE INNER FENDERS. WE JUST NEED TO MAKE A LITTLE CUT, BE SURE WE HAVE ENOUGH CLEARANCE FOR SUSPENSION TRAVEL. [ SAW BUZZING ] [ Music ] YEAH, LET'S SEE IF WE CAN GET IT IN THERE. [ Music ]
(JEREMY)>> NOW FITMENT PROBABLY ISN'T GONNA HAPPEN RIGHT OFF THE FIRST TRY. IT DOES TAKE A LITTLE TIME AND PRACTICE TO GET YOUR GAPS JUST RIGHT AND GET THE HOOD EXACTLY WHERE YOU WANT IT. [ Music ] MAKE A REALLY GOOD GAP OUT OF THAT. [ Music ] THIS IS MY VISION FOR WHAT I SEE THIS TRUCK LOOKING LIKE. WE HAVE WHITE FOR OUR MAIN OVERALL COLOR, CHARCOAL FOR THE DESIGN ON THE HOOD, AND WE HAVE ORANGE FOR THE PIN STRIPE TO GO AROUND THAT DESIGN WITH LITTLE ACCENTS HERE AND THERE. SEALER IS ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA BECAUSE IT GIVES US A UNIFORM COLOR TO TOPCOAT OVER. THIS WILL REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF BASE WE WILL USE, AND THEREFORE CUTTING DOWN ON THE AMOUNT OF MATERIAL WE'RE LAYING ON THE PANEL. JUST ONE COAT GETS THE JOB DONE. [ Music ] ALRIGHT, WE'VE GOT ONE COAT OF SEALER LAID DOWN. EVERYTHING'S COVERED, LOOKING REALLY GOOD. LAY DOWN A FEW COATS OF BASE. I'LL USE THIS SAME GUN SETUP AS I USED FOR THE SEALER, BUT I'M MOVING THE GUN AT A FASTER PACE. THE GOAL HERE IS FOR COVERAGE. SPRAYING YOUR COLOR ON TOO WET COULD CAUSE RUNS OR TEXTURE, WHICH LEADS TO ORANGE PEEL. SO MEDIUM IS THE GOAL. ONCE AGAIN I'LL MAKE THREE PASSES OF THE WHITE. I'M USING PPG 16-84 MIXED ONE TO ONE WITH DT 885 REDUCER. THE TYPE OF REDUCER YOU USE IS BASED ON THE TEMPERATURE OF YOUR SPRAYING ENVIRONMENT. SO ALWAYS CHECK THE TECH SHEETS FOR THE PROPER MATCH. TO JIVE WITH WHAT I'VE PLANNED FOR THE UPHOLSTERY MORE MASKING WILL PREVENT OVERSPRAY FOR OUR NEXT COLOR. THIS CHARCOAL WILL MATCH THE INNER FENDERS, FRAME, AND INSIDE DOOR PANELS. IT'S A HEAVY METALLIC THAT IS ALSO LAID DOWN IN THREE COATS. [ Music ] ALRIGHT WE'VE GOT ALL OF OUR BASE LAID DOWN. WE'VE GOT THE DASH IN CHARCOAL, EVERYTHING'S LOOKING REALLY COOL. NOW WE CAN LAY DOWN THREE COATS OF PPG' S 20-21. [ SPRAY GUN HISSING ]
(KATIE)>> NOW IT MIGHT BE A LONG PROCESS BUT IT'LL BE TOTALLY WORTH IT IN THE END. STAY TUNED FOR THE RESURRECTION OF THIS BASKET CASE.
(JEREMY)>> WE WENT TO DENNIS CARPENTER RESTORATION PARTS AND PICKED UP EVERYTHING WE NEED TO COMPLETE OUR INTERIOR. PREMADE DOOR PANELS, KICK PANELS, PANEL FOR THE BACK WALL, HEAD LINER, AND ARM REST. NOW THEY SPECIALIZE IN NOTHING BUT FORD, CARS, TRUCKS, TRACTORS, YOU NAME IT. NOW THIS IS A VERY INEXPENSIVE OPTION TO KEEP YOU FROM HAVING TO MAKE PANELS FROM SCRATCH OUT OF PANEL BOARD. HOLES COME PRECUT FOR THE CLIPS, WINDOW CRANKS, AND DOOR HANDLES. NOW YOU COULD INSTALL THESE IN YOUR OLD ORIGINAL TRUCK JUST LIKE THEY COME HERE, OR YOU COULD COVER THEM WITH WHATEVER MATERIAL YOU LIKE, OR EVEN ADD A CUSTOM TOUCH LIKE WE'RE ABOUT TO DO. [ Music ] THE FIRST STEP IS TO POP THE METAL DOOR CLIPS INTO THE DOOR PANEL. I LIKE TO USE THE METAL CLIPS AS OPPOSED TO THE PLASTIC ONES BECAUSE YOU CAN REUSE THEM. NOW WE CAN FOAM THE PANEL. I'M USING QUARTER INCH CLOSED CELL FOAM FOR THIS. TRIM OUT A PIECE A LITTLE BIGGER THAN THE PANEL, AND SPRAY CONTACT CEMENT ON BOTH THE PANEL AND THE FOAM. NOW BE SURE TO LET THE GLUE TACK FOR A FEW MINUTES. THIS HELPS FOR BETTER ADHESION. THEN I'LL MARRY THE TWO TOGETHER, AND TRIM THE EXCESS FOAM AWAY WITH A RAZOR BLADE. WITH THE DESIGN CUT OUT OF THE DOOR PANEL FOAM, THE NEXT STEP IS TO USE THOSE CUTOUTS FOR THE INSERT LAYER OF THE PANEL BOARD. AFTER THEY GET TRACED, METAL SHEARS MAKE QUICK WORK OF CUTTING THEM OUT. NOW THE BASE PANEL GETS COVERED WITH THE SAME GRAY VINYL TOMMY USED ON OUR SEATS. A TWOINCH OVERLAP ON THE CUT PROVIDES SOME WIGGLE ROOM. THE BEST WAY TO DO THIS IS GLUE ONE HALF AT A TIME. IF YOU TRIED TO GLUE THE ENTIRE PIECE ON AT ONCE, THERE'S A GOOD CHANCE YOU'LL RUN INTO ALIGNMENT PROBLEMS. USING THE HANDLE OF YOUR SCISSORS OR A ROUNDED TRIM TOOL, I'LL FORCE THE MATERIAL DOWN TIGHT WHERE OUR INSERTS GO. NOW I CAN FLIP IT OVER AND START WRAPPING THE VINYL AROUND THE PANEL. THERE'S A TECHNIQUE I ALWAYS USE WHEN COVERING AROUND A SQUARE CORNER. THAT'S KIND OF A TRADE SECRET THE PROS USUALLY KEEP TO THEMSELVES. SO, IF YOU WANT, GO AHEAD AND TAKE NOTES. TO MAKE YOUR CORNERS WRINKLE FREE WRAP ONE SIDE UP TO THE CORNER. THEN ABOUT AN EIGHTH INCH FROM THE TURN MAKE A CUT IN THE SHAPE OF HALF A WINE GLASS. FOLD IT OVER AND CUT THE OTHER HALF OF THE WINE GLASS. THEN PEEL IT OVER AND STAPLE IT DOWN. NOW YOUR EDGES WILL WRAP PERFECTLY EVERY TIME WRINKLE FREE. THAT LOOKS REALLY GOOD, MAKING PROGRESS.
(LT)>> THE KICK PANELS WERE MADE WITH THE SAME PROCESS AS THE DOOR PANELS. [ Music ] I'LL TELL YOU WHAT. IT'S BEEN A HECK OF A THRASH THESE LAST THREE DAYS BUT THESE GUYS HAVE PUT TOGETHER A PRETTY AWESOME INTERIOR THAT'LL DEFINITELY WIN SOME SHOWS.
(JEREMY)>> NOW AS YOU GUYS KNOW OUR TRUCK CAME TO US ALREADY CHOPPED AND IT ALSO CAME WITH GLASS THAT WAS ALREADY CUT DOWN, AND WELL IT DIDN'T REALLY FIT TOO GOOD.
(BRIAN)>> NO, NO, WHEN SOMEBODY CHOPS A TOP ON A CAR, WHETHER IT BE THIS TRUCK, AN OLD '50'S HOT ROD, JUST BECAUSE YOU CHOP IT THREE INCHES DOESN'T NECESSARY MEAN THE GLASS CHANGED THREE INCHES. SO, THEY TOOK THREE INCHES OFF THE WINDSHIELD, AND AS YOU CAN SEE WHEN WE PUT IT IN WE CAN PUT OUR THROUGH IT. IT WAS A LITTLE SHORT. SO, WHAT WE NEED TO DO IS WE'LL MAKE SOME NEW TEMPLATES AND WE'LL WALK PEOPLE HOW WE DO THAT, AND WE'LL GET IT CHOPPED AND GET IT IN THERE.
(JEREMY)>> LET'S DO IT, I'LL TRY NOT TO BREAK ANYTHING.
(BRIAN)>> THAT'S ALRIGHT. WE START BY PUTTING THE POSTER BOARD, OR CARDBOARD, ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE PINCH WELD OF THE TRUCK. WE'LL DRAW WITH A MARKER AROUND THE INSIDE OF THE PINCH WELD. WE THEN ADD TO THE TEMPLATE FOR THE PINCH WELD WHERE THE GLASS IS GONNA REST. IN THIS CASE IT ENDED UP BEING A QUARTER OF AN INCH. SO, WE ADDED A QUARTER OF AN INCH TO OUR DAYLIGHT SIZE. WE TRIMMED OUT THE PATTERN, WE LAID THAT BACK IN THE TRUCK TO MAKE SURE THE GLASS IS GONNA LAY WHERE WE WANT IT TO. AFTER WE'RE DONE AND WE HAVE THAT SET THE WAY WE WANT, WE TRANSFER IT TO THE GLASS, WE LAY OUR LINE ON THE GLASS, AND WE'RE READY TO CUT. NOW THAT WE HAVE THE FINAL PIECE OFF THE GLASS, WE'RE GONNA START WITH OUR FINISHING PROCESS. THE FINISHING PROCESS OF GLASS IS EXACTLY LIKE THE FINISHING PROCESS OF PAINTING A CAR. IT'S STARTS AT 40 GRIT AND GOES ALL THE WAY UP TO 600 GRIT, AND YOU CAN EVEN POLISH IT WITH CORK AT THE END.
(JEREMY)>> THE PIECE IS TEST FIT ONE LAST TIME, AND THEN THE GASKET IS INSTALLED AROUND THE PINCH WELD JUST TO GET IT DOWN TO SIZE. REMEMBER THE TWOINCH CHOP MEANS A SMALLER SEAL AROUND THE SMALLER GLASS. ONCE IT'S CUT, BRIAN WILL GLUE IT BACK TOGETHER, INSTALL IT ON THE WINDSHIELD, AND THREAD IN THE WINDSHIELD ROPE. THEN THE WHOLE THING IS INSTALLED FROM THE OUTSIDE IN. YOU GOT IT MAN, IT'S IN.
(BRIAN)>> AWESOME!
(JEREMY)>> LOOKS GOOD!
(KATIE)>> UP NEXT, HOW DID WE END UP HERE? IT'S SHOW TIME FOR THIS CUSTOM ONE OFF. LET THE BIDDING BEGIN!
(JEREMY)>> WELL THERE SHE SITS. AFTER TWO AND A HALF YEARS OUR '55 FORD F-100 IS FINALLY COMPLETE. NOW JUST AS WE'VE TURNED HER LAST NUT AND BOLT SHE'S GOING AWAY TODAY. IT WAS RIGHT HERE IN ALLEN JACKSON'S GARAGE. NO, NOT THE COUNTRY GUY, THIS GUY WHO ORIGINALLY PURCHASED THE TRUCK. HE HAD THE CAB CHOPPED TWO INCHES, AND ALTHOUGH HE KEPT THE ORIGINAL FRAME ALLEN BOUGHT A TON OF NEW PARTS. THE FENDERS WERE ALREADY BODY WORKED. I MEAN HIS DREAM TRUCK WAS WELL UNDER WAY.
(ALLEN)>> I KNEW WHAT I WANTED TO PUT INTO THE TRUCK SO IF I DID SELL IT, I WOULD BE ABLE TO AT LEAST BREAK EVEN OR MAKE A LITTLE MONEY. AT THAT TIME I JUST DECIDED IT WAS JUST TIME TO GO AHEAD AND GET RID OF THIS PROJECT AND GO AHEAD AND MOVE ON TO THE NEXT ONE.
(JEREMY)>> WE'VE TAKEN YOU STEP BY STEP THROUGH THE BUILD OF OUR F-100 AND WELL, THERE'S ONLY ONE THING LEFT TO DO.
(LT)>> THAT'S RIGHT, AFTER PUTTING THAT MANY HOURS INTO A PROJECT THE ONLY THING YOU CAN DO IS GET OUT ON THE ROAD AND PUT SOME MILES ON IT.
(JEREMY)>> THAT'S RIGHT, LET'S HIT THE ROAD. [ Music ] OH YEAH! [ ENGINE REVVING ]
(LT)>> YOU KNOW NORMALLY I DON'T LIKE THE SOUND OF A VSIX BUT WHEN YOU PUT TWO TURBOS ON THE SIDE OF IT.
(JEREMY)>> IT'S NOT BAD. [ Music ] [ ENGINE REVVING ]
(JEREMY)>> TIME FOR ONE LAST CHORE, GET THIS BABY SOLD SO WE CAN BUY MORE PROJECTS. THAT MEANS ROAD TRIP UP TO LOUISVILLE, AND THE KENTUCKY EXPO CENTER, HOME THIS WEEKEND FOR MECUM AUCTIONS. [ Music ] THIS PLACE IS AMAZING! IT'S LIKE A TRAVELING CARNIVAL OF EVERYTHING AUTOMOTIVE. 13 CITIES ARE CHOSEN EACH YEAR FOR THIS MADE FOR TV EVENT.
(LT)>> BUT TO BE HERE IN PERSON AND EXPERIENCE THE SHEER VOLUME OF COOL CARS AND TRUCKS, NOT TO MENTION THE BIDDING ACTION ON THE BLOCK. [ AUCTIONEER CHANTING ]
(LT)>> IT'S JUST PLAIN COOL!
(JEREMY)>> SO HOW EASY IT TO SELL YOUR RIDE AT MECUM? DO WHAT WE DID. SEND IN AN APPLICATION, FILL OUT THE PACKET THEY SEND YOU, WHICH INCLUDES YOUR ENTRY FEE AND INSTRUCTIONS TO MAIL IN YOUR TITLE.
(LT)>> WE CHECKED IN TWO DAYS BEFORE OUR LOT HITS THE AUCTION BLOCK, AND IF YOUR PAPERWORK IS IN ORDER, THEY TAKE THE KEYS AND SHE'S GONE. DOES IT HURT TO WATCH SOMEBODY ELSE DRIVE YOUR TRUCK AWAY?
(JEREMY)>> IT'S LIKE BEING CHEATED ON. IT'S JUST NOT RIGHT.
(LT)>> HERE'S HOW MUCH IT COST. BUYERS PAY A 10 PERCENT COMMISSION. SELLERS, OR CONSIGNERS AS THEY CALL YOU, PAY 10 PERCENT IF YOU SET A RESERVE, BUT SELL IT NO RESERVE AND THAT COMMISSION DROPS TO FIVE. BIDDERS REGISTER IN ADVANCE FOR $100 BUCKS, AND THAT GETS YOU AND A GUEST IN THE DOOR.
(JOHN)>> YOU PAY THE $100 DOLLARS. WE TAKE A $500 DOLLAR CREDIT AUTHORIZATION ON A MAJOR CREDIT CARD OR $500 DOLLAR CASH DEPOSIT. YOU PAY WITH A CHECK. WHEN YOU BUY THE CAR, YOU TAKE THE CAR WITH YOU. WE HOLD THE TITLES FOR THREE WEEKS WAITING FOR ALL THE CHECKS TO CLEAR, SIMPLE AS THAT.
(LT)>> NOW THIS IS ACTUALLY OUR LAST CHANCE. WE TALKED ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT TO GO WITH A RESERVE ON THIS TRUCK, AND I THINK WE'RE LEANING TO NO RESERVE. WHAT DO YOU THINK?
(JEREMY)>> I THINK AT NO RESERVE IT'S LESS EXPENSIVE FOR US TO SELL THE TRUCK. PLUS, AT NO RESERVE IT MAY PEAK A LITTLE INTEREST WITH THE BIDDERS. THEY MAY START BIDDING AND HEY, MAY NOT STOP.
(LT)>> HEY THAT MEANS MORE MONEY FOR NEW PROJECTS, RIGHT?
(JEREMY)>> EXACTLY.
(LT)>> WELL THERE WE GO, NO RESERVE.
(JEREMY)>> NO RESERVE, I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M THINKING. ( )>> FOUR, THREE, TWO, ONE, TRANSITION, AND WE'RE WORKING.
(SCOTT)>> WE ARE BACK IN LOUISVILLE.
(JEREMY)>> IT'S SHOW TIME AND OURS WAS PUT IN A PREMIERE LOT. MECUM PRODUCERS PUT ME IN THE BOOTH WITH ANNOUNCER SCOTT HOKE AND JOHN KRAMEN.
(LT)>> WHILE I GOT TO SOAK IT ALL IN FROM THE FLOOR. I'M NERVOUS MAN. IT'S THE TIME.
(SCOTT)>> THAT IS YOUR HANDY WORK AND IT'S ABOUT READY TO CROSS THE AUCTION BLOCK HERE. TELL ME WHAT YOU'RE FEELING RIGHT NOW AS THAT THING GETS READY.
(JEREMY)>> A LOT OF EXCITEMENT. YOU KNOW, A LOT OF BUZZ AROUND THE TRUCK TODAY AND IT'S BEEN FANTASTIC. THIS AUCTION IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, BUT YEAH, A LOT OF BUZZ TODAY. SO, I'M EXCITED TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS. THIS TRUCK WAS A LOT MORE THAN JUST BUILDING A TRUCK ON TV. IT WAS A LOT OF LATE NIGHTS AND LOT OF WEEKENDS. SO, THERE'S A LOT OF EFFORT THAT'S WENT INTO THIS TRUCK, AND I'M ABSOLUTELY PLEASED WITH HOW IT TURNED OUT.
(LT)>> I'VE GOT BUTTERFLIES IN MY STOMACH NOW, AND HERE WE GO. THE AUCTIONEER STARTS HIGH AND LOWERS THE OPENING BID UNTIL SOMEONE BITES. THEY BID AT $20,000, AND FROM WHAT WE COULD TELL WE HAD FIVE BIDDERS IN ON THE ACTION, TWO ON THE PHONE AND THREE ON THE FLOOR. ( )>> THEY'RE PROBABLY ASKING $42,000.
(JEREMY)>> YOU KNOW I'M SITTING THERE TALKING TO THE GUYS WATCHING THE MONITOR AT THE SAME TIME. JUST INCREDIBLE HOW QUICKLY THE PRICE WAS JUMPING UP.
(JOHN)>> AND IT'S PAYING OFF MY FRIEND. WE'RE ALREADY AT $45,000 BUCKS AND STILL CLIMBING. ( )>> BID'S $46,000. ( )>> $47,000!
(JEREMY)>> AND JUST LIKE THAT THE BID JUMPED $7,000. THAT'S WHERE THE ABSENTEE BIDDERS DROPPED OUT WITH TWO LEFT.
(LT)>> THAT JUST BLOWS MY MIND. [ AUCTIONEER CHANTING ]
(AUCTIONEER)>> $57,000, NOW $60,000. $60,000 GOING ONCE, $57,000, $60,000 TWICE, SOLD, $57,000 DOLLARS!
(SCOTT)>> AND SOMEBODY HAS JUST BOUGHT THE TRUCK FOR $57,000 DOLLARS.
(JEREMY)>> I COULDN'T BE MORE PLEASED WITH THAT GUYS. THAT'S ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.
(JOHN)>> WELL IT'S A TESTAMENT TO BOTH YOU AND LT'S VISION AND ALSO BOTH OF YOUR GUYS ABILITY TO CREATE THIS TRUCK. OUR HATS OFF TO YOU. A COUPLE OF REALLY YOUNG SUPER TALENTED GUYS. REALLY SO PLEASED TO HAVE YOU HERE WITH US. THE FACT THE BROUGHT THE TRUCK, IT'S REALLY BEEN OUR HONOR MAN.
(JEREMY)>> THANKS SO MUCH, THANKS FOR HAVING ME, IT WAS A PLEASURE.
(BUFFORD)>> I JUST HAD TO HAVE THAT TRUCK. I MEAN IT'S JUST ONE OFF, ONE OF A KIND, JUST HAD TO HAVE IT. JUST THE WORKMANSHIP, THE DESIGN, JUST EVERYTHING ABOUT THE TRUCK JUST JUMPED OUT AT YOU.
(JEREMY)>> BUY A LOT OF TIRES FOR IT.
(KATIE)>> ISN'T PROJECT BASKET CASE SUCH A DREAM MACHINE? AND TO SEE WHAT HAPPEN WHEN YOU DREAM I SURE HOPE THAT WE INSPIRED YOU. REMEMBER YOU CAN CATCH ALL OF OUR OTHER GREAT PROJECTS RIGHT HERE ON POWERNATION BUILDS.
