Stay tuned. It's the race. Steve mcqueen made famous. We're going to Elsinore then. It's the world's biggest V twin. We'll test the Vulcan

Plus Tommy G with suspension upgrades in our project of the week.

Hey guys, welcome to T DC. I'm a

neighbors now in 1971 Steve mcqueen appeared in a motorcycle documentary on any Sunday using the alias Harvey Mushman.

Well, he's gone but his name lives on in an Elsinore race called

the Mushman 100.

There's one event you do a year. It's

and you only race the Elsinore Grand Prix if you have the cubes the size of. Well, Steve mcqueen,

this is awesome.

This

is

great

tracks rough, really extremely rough. And uh I mean, it's 100 miles close to three hours straight of just torture on your body.

The roost is really gnarly. The rocks here. They're like loose rocks, heavily marble type rocks. But when they hit you, they really hurt

yesterday. One hit me in the lip and I thought it knocked my tooth out. I had a big fat lip.

Yeah, the, the roost is really gnarly here. I, I never could have imagined how, how bad. The roost is,

try not to ride behind the guy in front of you. If I took one in the boot, you'd think hit me in the boot is not that big a deal, but,

you know, underneath where it did, it's sore.

But yeah, we're gonna take some rocks today. It's, uh, they're brutal

and it just beats you to death as you go along because of course it gets rougher and rougher, rougher. That's what you get

all in the name of fun.

What we do for a living and we love it.

It's what we do for a living and we love it.

It's what we do for a living and we love it.

Here's a challenge can find four riders. You don't always necessarily know

which line they're gonna go.

Do I go on the inside

if I can have enough room

to push them out,

what do I wind up doing?

Couple blocks

a pit

hard right up here.

You know, we're doing 60 miles an hour down a section where somebody's doing 25 miles an hour. The course is 7 8 ft wide.

There's one worn in groove, there's pebbles and rocks on the outside of that groove with a, a hill on one side and the cliff on the other. And those guys don't just hold their line, they're going back and forth and we're racing for money. So,

you know, we're trying to squeeze it in there.

Oh,

shit.

Rocks. Rough rutted. There's a

whole like two miles of cliff on one side.

And if that ain't tough enough, it wasn't getting any easier when they got off the dirt and on to the black top.

Where else can you ride dirt bikes legally on city streets

and do about 100 miles an hour

it off on the asphalt.

Our trip,

74 miles an hour.

You would think that the black top would be actually really sticky, but actually it's really, really slick and, you know, you got to be really straight and you got to make sure when you come on to the black top, you're straight and when you go off, you're straight, that's really cool. Not too many races anywhere. You know, in the world get to just ride right through the middle of the town.

It's sketchy because you're coming off and on pavement

fast as a motorcycle will go and then you're coming on to the pavement

and tires are dirty and stuff like that. It's neat. There isn't too many places you can go and actually race down

the streets down by the houses, pitching sideways on the pavement. It's a ball.

My discipline is normally Motocross so the pavement is way out of my element, but I'm learning it quick and I like it, it's really different. It's, it's interesting. It's a lot of fun. I love it.

Awesome.

Awesome.

There's not a word better than awesome, I don't think is there.

Now, what's awesome is you don't have to be an old fart to appreciate the history behind this epic event

as racers, young and old. We're down with the nostalgia. I've heard of this event for years and years and years and I've always wondered what it would be like and I've always seen the photos of it right in the middle of town and I always saw a lot of

be really cool to race down through town like that. But,

and this year I got to get out here and I'm getting to see it and it's awesome.

I've watched on any Sunday a million times. I've dreamed about this race since I was a little kid. And last year I got to ride it and hopefully this year I'll win it. The history of this event is awesome. That's why I was so happy to win it last year and put my name on that plaque. I didn't know there was a trophy. I just want

money.

There was no money to win, but lots of laughs in the mini team race held before the Mushman 100 Minnie by

now. I'm not saying Minnie by grazing is feminine. But what about this guy? What about this guy? He lost the bet right here. I talked to far with my mechanic, lost the bet earlier on today.

10 bucks for this. It's gonna buy me dinner.

I feel confident. Hey, what can you say when a guy says he's confident in a halter top hard times for this team as the Elsinore track gobbled up minis

like cupcakes and a Weight Watchers convention

who busted the tire

beginners, you know,

however, a busted tire wasn't going to slow this team down a move. That would please the great Bandido mini

pies.

I don't feel like Steve mcqueen.

Hey. Well, whether he's called Steve or Harvey, I think mcqueen would be proud of those guys.

More fun from Elson or coming up.

All right. Now, what is the isle of man and Elsinore have in common?

Well, they both love racing in the streets.

Yeah, motorcycles are dangerous

class.

Hey, don't be a wuss because they're all so fun

and no race kicks ass quite like a mushman one Hunter.

It's a killer event. I mean, you're ride on pavement through the city streets out in the back. There's just thousands of Spectators out there checking it out, want to see what's going on. It's, it's really happening.

This is a classic, this is an event that draws

1500 people to every year and it's all about having a good time. It's really cool. They get into it, they get fired up and

have a few beers and go crazy

if

it wasn't for the fans out there cheering us on. You go for 100 miles and

you hit the 6070 mile period. You start getting a little tired and then the fans kind of help push you along the last 30

this event going again. It's, it's pretty cool. You know, I'm glad to be a part of it

and there wasn't a shortage of racers but the top guys know how the long ones play out

whoever is on that podium deserves it. Definitely a war of attrition and it'll be, it'll be good being a 2.5 hour race. It's just, um,

you know, the toughest guy is gonna win. Being good or tough isn't a prerequisite for getting on TV. Silly hats are good. Although this one is pretty lame.

Being a hot chick. Well, that's good too.

The middle of the 909 in California, of course, there's going to be girls out here. They all want to see the Motocross.

I don't think they're here to check this guy out, but the ladies like bruises. So this one's in

and if you decide to race a bike more suited to cruise across country,

we'll even talk to you.

Well, I'm racing a kind of unique machine here. I got the 950 KTM adventure. It's, uh, it's quite a machine. It's got a B TW engine,

950 CCS.

It's kind of a street bike that can be ridden off road as well. Top speeds about 135 miles an hour.

Uh, fully fueled and everything with gas. I'm looking at probably 550 pounds rolling.

But his son wasn't so sure about pop's bike strategy. If his arms aren't the size of Popeye by the end,

he'll be lucky. That thing is a big, big bike. I couldn't ride it. That's for sure. Not just even down the road. It's a handful for me, let alone going on the dirt, going at speed

with three Baja 1000 wins. Dad was taken.

I would imagine if we were both on equal machinery and I was riding

a race bike like him. There would be a lot more competition, but I've already got a built in Crutch here. I'm riding the big boy here so

I don't think we'll have to worry about that.

Crutch or not. Dad showed, who knows best by finishing the race while his son did not

defending Mushman 100 champion Destry

Abbott also hit the showers.

He came across a lap rider. It was

I

of

course, and

ended up going straight into the rider and

he thinks he might have just located his shoulder, but he'll be all right. He just pulled off and he said

it was broken tires. It caused a lot of bike casualties but not for Scott Sheik whose rubber didn't let him down as he edged his teammate, Bobby bonds for second place.

My

mission tires held up the whole time.

You know, we had the moos

in there that can't puncture. You know, there's a full

foam

in there. So,

yeah, my bike just hung in there and did a job, you know,

doing the job was Privateer Lance Smell who won the 2.5 hour epic with a great bike set up and smart day plan.

It worked out pretty good. Uh You know, I started out kind of mellow guys were going a little crazy and,

you know, I let things settle in and about halfway. I was able to get into the lead

just kind of go from there. You know, I had a little better mileage than, uh, than the two strokes out there on my YZF.

That track was, uh,

was as brutal as you can get. You know, my hands are still tingling.

Um

You know,

it was survival.

Now, if you want to see Steve mcqueen race this event rent a copy of on any Sunday.

There's nothing like it.

Welcome back to top dead center. I'm Tommy G.

No argument that the best cruisers are big V twins.

But can the biggest V twin be the best cruiser?

Think of it as the latest knockout punch in the Cruiser wars.

It's Kawasaki's big high torque bulk in 2000.

The type of guy that buys this bike is the type of guy that's just looking for the biggest of, of whatever he's looking for. The biggest baddest motorcycle out there

real big with a 68 inch wheelbase and a dry weight of 750 pounds

and real bad. It's the biggest production VW ever built

with 100 and 25 inches delivering 100 and 16 horsepower and 100 and 41 ft pounds of torque uh in the V 20 class, this is the bike, there's

nothing out there

that displaces anything near this.

The water cooled 52 degree five speed uses exterior push rods instead of overhead cams to keep the bike center of gravity low.

Even though it's an extremely heavy motorcycle, it still has uh a lot of acceleration from, from all that torque.

Everything about this belt drive monster is big.

They're running a 200 millimeter wide rear tire on a 16 inch rim.

Um

It's aesthetically a good looking tire and it also is able to deal with the torque of this motorcycle.

It's a classic retro rod with the hard tail style swing arm,

hid rear shock and the super low 27 inch seat height.

But its most prominent styling statement comes from this massive head lamp.

It is a unique headlight. It's got four projector beam headlights built into it

and a huge chrome housing

which actually helps on the freeway to block some of the wind

and there are plenty of other cruiser goodies, tombstone tail lamp, low slash cut exhaust,

lots of chrome on crinkle finished cases

and a classic tank console.

The whole thing

just reminds you of a freight train coming at you and kind of carries their theme of the ultimate big bike

to the to the nth degree

up front four piston Takiko

Calipers and 300 millimeter rotors help slow the train.

But being a heavyweight has its drawbacks.

My biggest complaint on the bike would just be maneuvering it around

town and in slow traffic or

making a U turn and pulling into a parking space or just moving the bike around in general at slow speed, the bike can be a real handful. Once it gets over 5, 10

MPH, the bikes perfectly composed. But when you're moving it around at a slow speed, you definitely feel that

that 700 plus pounds fighting against you.

What won't fight against you is that Vulcans MS RP

at 14, 499

the world's biggest B twin is a value for one basic reason.

The thing I like about this bike is that torque is so intoxicating. Amen.

We're back on T DC.

You guys have for more dirt bikes on the show

today. We've got it for you

from beginners to pros. Every motor crosser knows how critical aftermarket suspension is. When competing at race level.

You can have the fastest bike on the track, but if it doesn't handle well, you're not going to win. That's why today's build up's all about suspension.

Let's start by removing the front forks and the rear shock off our YZ 250 F

with the pinch bolts loosen,

the forks will slide right out.

You got to remove the sub frame in order to get to the shop

with the bottom bolt off, pull the top shock bolt and it will slide right out

when your ability as a rider progresses. So will your need for custom suspension?

That's why we're going to take this stuff off and send it to factory connection

where the forks and the shock are going to be set to our rider's weight.

While the front suspension is off, we're going to pull and swap out the stock clamp

with the number plate off and the Hannah bars out of the way

loosen and remove the top clamp nut,

remove the top clamp,

then loosen and remove the spanner nut.

Then you can pull out the bottom clown.

We're going to put on Vortex Pro works top and bottom triple clamps. They're made from aerospace 6061 T six aluminum.

Not only are they strong, these clamps feature three pinch bolts on each side of the bottom clamp.

This is going to help reduce the front in flex.

Let's get them on

when you guys get your suspension back. This is what it should look like.

We told the guys that factory connection are right away. 100 and 50 pounds

inside. They replaced the valves, the shims

o rings and put the oil level to 100 and 40 millimeters.

The start settings are written right here on the fork

for the shock. They gave us a softer 4.6 spring

a red

anodized bladder cap and filled the shock with nitrogen to 100 and 50 P. Si

They sent us a cut out so we could show you exactly what they did on the inside,

new valves, oil seal, piston,

piston ring and new shock bumper with our triple clamps on.

I can't wait to get the suspension on.

What you're gonna get with. This new suspension is much better handling, less shake through turns, better rebound and much better bottoming.

I bet a lot of you guys are thinking there's no way in hell, I can afford pro suspension like this.

Well, you'd be surprised

the bill for this bike including revolving new seals, new spring fluids, caps and all the labor, a reasonable 7 28 45.

This is the same type of suspension riders like Kevin Wyndham and Mike

Rocco use on their bikes

in a few weeks. We'll take the YZ out to the track. I'll show you how to dial it in.

All right. Now, let's check out the latest new gear. Now, if you ride in the dirt, you know, you need lots of leg and ankle protection. There's no substitute for a good race boot. Ok. Now, this is the new Vortex Evo Motocross boot from CD

and they've got a one piece composite section from the toe to the ankle and it has hard heel and calf protectors and it features buckles with C D's unique cam lock system.

Now, they're affordable with a list of only 275. Now, that's a good deal. And so is this, it's a new warp MX Goggle from Smith.

They feature

a flexible urethane frame Lexan

lens and three layers of foam for a tight seal. It's a good goggle for about $45 but it's not as good as this one. It's their new fuel Pro series. Now, it has two cylinders to hold a roll of clear thin film. When your goggles get covered by mud or rain, just pull the knob and a spring advances, clean film. It's a great idea

and you can pick them up at your local race shop for about $60. Now, if you've got a Harley and you want quicker starting, improved idle and better throttle response. Check this out.

A

L super coils, an easy bolton that delivers higher spark energy for single fire big twins and sportster.

Now, they retail for about 100 and $35 and for best results, you always want to use them with a set of their

low resistant silicone wire sets. How these 8.8 wires retail for about $35. All right. Now, this next item won't do much for your bike's performance, but it will do something for your image.

This is Joe Rockets, new Power trip street jacket. It has cowhide shoulder protection sewn over ballistic nylon and the torso and sleeves. The sleeves have elbows protectors and zippered vents for cooling

the back has a zippered exit and the waist gathers with elastic sides and a velcro cinch.

And it's also affordable with the suggested retail 100 and $99. Well, guys, that's all for T DC this week by, join us next week, we'll head to this trip for some drag race action on the world's quickest Pro stock bites.

It'll be great ride safe and we'll see you then.
