(ANNOUNCER)>> TODAY WE'RE
GETTING READY TO DO AN ENGINE SWAP ON OUR '71 CHEYENNE C-10,
AND THAT STARTS WITH PULLING OUT THE OLD SCHOOL CARBURETED
454 BOWTIE BIG BLOCK. SO WE'RE GONNA SHOW YOU HOW
WITH SOME CHEAP AND EASY CLEAN UP, YOU CAN GET TOP DOLLAR
SELLING YOUR OLD ENGINE. IT'S ALL TODAY HERE ON TRUCKS.
(RYAN)>> HEY GUYS, WELCOME TO TRUCKS. WELL TODAY WE'RE WORKING ON OUR TWO WHEEL DRIVE 1971 CHEVY PICK UP. NOW LIKE WE TOLD YOU WHEN WE FIRST STARTED THIS PROJECT,
WE'RE GONNA BE REPLACING THE WARMED UP BIG BLOCK THAT MAKES AN EASY 400 HORSEPOWER WITH THE LATER MODEL LS STYLE ENGINE. NOW THE LS ENGINE THAT'S GOING BACK IN HERE IS GONNA MAKE AT LEAST THE SAME AMOUNT OF POWER, BUT IT'S ALSO GOING TO IMPROVE THE DRIVABILITY AND THE FUEL ECONOMY OF THIS OLD PICK UP.
(KEVIN)>> BUT WHAT WE'RE PULLING OUT OF HERE IS 454 CUBIC INCHES OF STUMP PULLING TORQUE. IT'S A GOOD ENGINE AND IT RUNS GREAT, AND IT'S HEALTHY INTERNALLY BASED ON THE 180 POUNDS OF COMPRESSION WE PULLED OFF ALL EIGHT CYLINDERS. BUT YOU LOOK AT IT, THE PAINT'S FLAKING AND IT'S DIRTY, LOOKS A LITTLE ROUGH. SO WE'RE GONNA SHOW YOU HOW TO MAXIMIZE THE ABILITY TO SELL THAT ENGINE BY FRESHENING IT UP, MAKE IT LOOK AS GOOD AS IT RUNS ON A BUDGET. AND BY THE WAY, STAYING ORGANIZED ON A TEAR DOWN REALLY PAYS DIVIDENDS EITHER FOR YOU, OR FOR THE NEXT GUY THAT'S GONNA OWN THIS ENGINE. BAGGING AND LABELING YOUR FASTENERS AND KEEPING EVERYTHING IN AN ORGANIZED MESS ON THE FLOOR REALLY HELPS YOU WHEN IT COMES TO REASSEMBLY OR DETAILING AND ENGINE LIKE WE'RE GONNA SHOW YOU HOW TO DO.
(RYAN)>> ALRIGHT, NOW LIKE WE LIKE TO DO WITH A LOT OF THESE VEHICLES AND SOME OF THE COMPONENTS THAT COME OUT OF THEM IS THROW THEM ON THE SCALES AND SEE WHAT THEY WEIGH. NOW OUR IRON HEAD BIG BLOCK AND THREE SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION COME IN AT 803 POUNDS, WHICH ISN'T TOO BAD AND IS ACTUALLY A LITTLE BIT LESS THAN I ANTICIPATED. NATURALLY IT'LL WEIGH MORE WITH ALL THE ACCESSORIES AND HEADERS ON IT, BUT IT GIVES US A GOOD REFERENCE POINT.
(KEVIN)>> NOW STEP ONE IN FRESHENING THIS ENGINE UP IS
OF COURSE CLEANING IT BEFORE WE CAN DO ANYTHING ELSE. HOWEVER, IN MY OPINION, TAKING A PRESSURE WASHER AND WASHING ALL THIS SOLVENT AND SCHMUTZ DOWN INTO THE STORM DRAIN IS PROBABLY NOT THE MOST ECOLOGICALLY RESPONSIBLE THING TO DO. WE DON'T WANT TO INTRODUCE THIS STUFF INTO THE WATER TABLE, INTO THE DRINKING WATER. SO YOU CAN DO THE SAME THING HERE INSIDE A CLOSED ENVIRONMENT WITH GOOD VENTILATION, KINDA LIKE WE'RE DOING. AND IT STARTS WITH SOME MATS DOWN ON THE BOTTOM, ON THE FLOOR, TO COLLECT WHAT'S GONNA RUN OFF THE SIDE OF THE ENGINE BLOCK. AND YOU DON'T NEED A WHOLE LOT OF EXPENSIVE EQUIPMENT TO DO THIS PROJECT. SOME BLUE NITRO GLOVES THAT ARE SOLVENT RESISTANT, SOME ABSORBENT TOWELS THAT ARE ALSO PRETTY STRONG, SOMETHING ABRASIVE.
NOW THESE ARE COMMON IN BODY SHOPS BUT THESE RED SCUFFING PADS REALLY ALLOW YOU TO GET INTO CREVICES JUST LIKE THEY DO WHEN YOU'RE SANDING A CAR. WE'VE GOT SOME MILD SOLVENT AS WELL AS SOME MORE AGGRESSIVE BRAKE CLEANING SOLVENT WE PICKED UP FROM O'REILLY, AND AN ASSORTMENT OF BRUSHES. LAST BUT NOT LEAST, SOME SAFETY GLASSES CAUSE YOU DON'T WANT TO SPLASH THIS STUFF IN YOUR EYES. BUT BEFORE WE START SCRUBBING LETS TAKE A LOOK AT THE ENGINE. AND THE FIRST THING IS SEE IS VERY OBVIOUS, THE BACK OF THE INTAKE MANIFOLD IS LEAKING.
YOU CAN SEE THE OIL PATH RUNNING DOWN HERE. NOW TYPICALLY TO DETAIL AN ENGINE YOU DON'T BREAK IT APART, YOU DON'T BREAK THE SEALS, BUT THIS
GIVES US AN OPPORTUNITY. NOW SINCE WE'RE NOT GONNA SELL AN ENGINE WITH A GIANT LEAK, AND SINCE THE INTAKE MANIFOLD HAS TO COME OFF TO PROPERLY RESEAL IT, WE CAN THROW IT IN THE BEAD BLAST CABINET AND CLEAN IT UP, MAKE IT LOOK LIKE A MILLION BUCKS BEFORE IT GOES BACK ON. NOW THE CHROME ON THIS ENGINE IS OBVIOUSLY NOT PERFECT. IT'LL CLEAN UP REALLY WELL, BUT IT'S NOT PERFECT.
THERE'S SOME SCRATCHES THAT YOU CAN SEE. BUT IF YOU REMEMBER, OUR GOAL HERE IS NOT TO THROW A BUNCH OF MONEY AT IT THAT WE'RE NEVER GONNA GET BACK OUT OF THIS ENGINE WHEN IT SELLS. WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO DO IS MAKE IT LOOK CARED FOR AND REALLY CLEAN. WE CAN LET THE NEXT GUY FIGURE OUT WHERE HE WANTS TO SPEND HIS MONEY OTHER THAN JUST BUYING THE THING. IT DOESN'T TAKE LONG TO MASK UP SOME OF THE OPENINGS ON THE ENGINE JUST TO ELIMINATE THE POSSIBILITY OF SOMETHING FALLING DOWN INSIDE IT. THEN IT'S A SIMPLE PROCESS OF GETTING THE OBVIOUS DIRT AND GRIME OFF OF THE SURFACE. NOW THE BRISTLES ON THE BRUSH ARE ACTUALLY QUITE STIFF, AND IT SERVES A DUAL PURPOSE.
NOT ONLY DISLODGING A LOT OF THE CONTAMINATION, OIL AND
GREASE THAT'S BUILT UP, BUT IT ALSO ABRADES THE PAINT
UNDERNEATH MAKING IT EASY FOR THE NEW PAINT TO STICK. THE BRAKE CLEANER IS A VERY AGGRESSIVE SOLVENT. HECK IT'S EVEN TAKING SOME OF THE PAINT WITH IT, AS YOU CAN SEE BY THE ORANGE TINT IN THE DRAIN PAN. A LITTLE BIT OF FORETHOUGHT GETS YOU A VERY PROFESSIONAL
LOOK WHEN YOU'RE PAINTING. FOR INSTANCE, TAKING THE ENGINE MOUNTS OFF THE SIDE
OF THE BLOCK, WELL IT LETS YOU PAINT THE AREA BEHIND THE ENGINE MOUNT. KIND OF A NO BRAINER. NOW THE CLEANING PROCESS SERVES A PURPOSE WITHIN ITSELF, BUT IT ALSO GIVES US THE OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE A REAL
THOROUGH INSPECTION TO EVERY ASPECT OF THE ENGINE, TOP TO BOTTOM, SIDE TO SIDE, AND TAKE A LOOK AT THINGS LIKE THE VALLEY.
(RYAN)>> TO OUR SURPRISE, KIND OF A PLEASANT SURPRISE, WE FOUND ROLLER LIFTERS. SO WE CAN ASK EVEN MORE FOR THIS ENGINE.
(KEVIN)>> NOW I GUESS WE COULD LEAVE IT UP TO THE NEXT GUY TO CLEAN UP THE GASKET SURFACES, BUT IT KINDA GOES TOWARDS THE SPIRIT OF WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO DO HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE AND
IT JUST SHOWED THAT WE CARED, CARE ENOUGH TO CLEAN IT UP FOR THE NEXT GUY. STUFFING THE RAGS IN THE PORTS IS OBVIOUS, SO WE DON'T GET ANY GASKET MATERIAL DOWN INSIDE THE HEADS. NOW PAINT DOESN'T STICK VERY WELL TO ENGINE OIL, SO THE BRAKE CLEANER SERVES ANOTHER PURPOSE HERE, AND THAT'S
PREPARING FOR MASKING, AND WE CAN PAINT. WE'RE USING DUPLICOLOR'S ENGINE ENAMEL IN CHEVROLET ORANGE, OF COURSE. NOW I'M KINDA SNEAKING UP ON IT DOING ONE COAT THAT'S A MIST COAT, FOLLOWED BY OTHER HEAVY FAT COATS FOR COLOR AND GLOSS.
(RYAN)>> HEY GUYS, WELCOME BACK TO TRUCKS.
TODAY WE'RE WORKING ON OUR 1971 CHEVY, CLEANING UP THE BIG BLOCK THAT CAME OUT OF IT, PREPPING IT FOR RESALE.
NOW AFTER KEVIN PULLED THE INTAKE OFF THE BLOCK, I WENT AHEAD AND STRIPPED IT DOWN AND THREW IT IN THE PARTS
WASHER AND CLEANED IT UP. AND IT ACTUALLY CAME OUT LOOKING PRETTY GOOD. I GUESS WE CAN THROW IT ON JUST LIKE IT IS AND STILL MAKE A PRETTY SERIOUS IMPROVEMENT OVER WHAT IT USED TO LOOK LIKE. BUT FOR JUST A LITTLE BIT MORE EFFORT, WE CAN MAKE THIS INTAKE MANIFOLD LOOK A LOT BETTER. NOW SINCE WE'RE WORKING WITH ALUMINUM, WE'VE TURNED THE AIR PRESSURE DOWN A LITTLE BIT AS TO NOT DAMAGE THE SURFACE. WE JUST WANT TO CLEAN IT AND NOT HURT IT. ALSO DON'T FORGET TO BLOW ANY OF THE BLAST MEDIA OUT OF THE INTAKE PORTS BEFORE YOU INSTALL IT ON AN ENGINE. NOW A CLEAR COAT FROM DUPLICOLOR WILL LOCK IN THE CLEAN.
DON'T TOUCH IT BEFORE YOU CLEAR COAT IT. THEN YOU'LL HAVE TO START OVER.
(KEVIN)>> NOW AFTER ONE MIST COAT AND THREE FAT COATS OF CHEVY ORANGE THE BLOCK LOOKS PRETTY GOOD, BUT TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT WHAT I DIDN'T DO. THE SPARK PLUGS, OIL FILTER, AND EVEN THE PAPER TOWELS
FROM THE EXHAUST PORTS, THAT'S NOT AN ACCIDENT. I LEFT THEM THERE ON PURPOSE BECAUSE FOR ME IT'S FREE MASKING AND THE GUY THAT BUYS THIS ENGINE'S GONNA TAKE THEM OUT ANY WAY.
THESE LOOK LIKE BUTT! BUT DON'T WORRY, HERE'S AN EASY WAY TO MAKE THEM LOOK A LOT BETTER. THE MOTHER'S CHROME POLISH IS IN A THICK PASTE, WHICH IS NICE BECAUSE IT DOESN'T RUN OFF THE COVER AND IT WON'T RUN DOWN ONTO THE FRESH PAINTED ENGINE. FOR THE FIRST STAGE I'M USING A MICROFIBER TOWEL AND GENTLY WORKING THE MOTHER'S POLISH INTO THE SURFACE TO REMOVE ANY SURFACE RUST AND GIVE IT A GENTLE CLEAN UP. ESPECIALLY AT THIS POINT DON'T BE SKIMPY WITH THE POLISH. KEEPING IT WET WILL ELIMINATE THE POSSIBILITY OF RUBBING ANY GRIT INTO THE CHROME, WHICH MAY SCRATCH IT EVEN MORE. WE'RE TRYING TO REVIVE THE CHROME, NOT SCRATCH IT UP. NOW POLISHING CHROME SEEMS PRETTY SIMPLE, AND IT IS IF YOU'RE USING THE RIGHT COMPOUND. BUT KEEP IN MIND, CHROME IS NOT AS STRONG AS WE ALL THINK IT IS.
IT IS STRONG, BUT IT CAN BE EASILY SCRATCHED FROM THE SURFACE. AND USING THE WRONG ABRASIVE CAN POSSIBLY DAMAGE YOUR
CHROME AND CAUSE THE CONDITION THAT WE'RE ACTUALLY TRYING TO REPAIR HERE. NOW THIS MAY TAKE SEVERAL ROUNDS TO ACTUALLY GET THE JOB DONE AND I'M STILL USING A MICROFIBER UNTIL I'M SATISFIED WITH THE OUTCOME. NOW KEEP USING SMALL AMOUNTS OF POLISH AND GENTLY RUB IT
INTO THE SURFACE AND ADD MORE AS YOU NEED IT. THE ADVANCE POLYMERS WILL HELP PREVENT STREAKING AND FINGER PRINTING, AND PROTECT AGAINST FUTURE FLASH RUST EVEN IF YOUR CHROME IS WORN LIKE OURS. NOW FOR THE FINAL BUFF I'M USING A SOFT SCOTT PRO SHOP TOWEL, AND IT'S PRETTY CLEAR THAT WITH THE RIGHT PRODUCT YOU CAN GET GREAT RESULTS.
NOW THESE VALVE COVERS LOOK A LOT BETTER, BUT THEY'RE NOT PERFECT. THEY DIDN'T HAVE TO BE. ALL WE'RE TRYING TO DO HERE IS PRESENT THIS THING TO WHERE IT LOOKS LIKE WE CARED ENOUGH ABOUT IT TO CLEAN IT UP AND
LET THE NEW OWNER DECIDE WHERE HE WANTS TO SPEND HIS MONEY.
NOW TO POLISH THE CHROME I USE A MICROFIBER CLOTH AND WE'RE USING MOTHER'S CALIFORNIA GOLD CHROME POLISH WITH ADVANCED PROTECTION FOR A BRILLIANT SHINE. NOW THERE'S A COUPLE OF REASON WHY I DIDN'T TAKE THE VALVE COVERS OFF. IN THE FIRST PLACE WE REALLY INSPECTED THEM WELL, THERE'S NO LEAKS. SO IF IT'S NOT BROKE, DON'T BREAK IT. THE OTHER REASON IS BECAUSE THESE VALVE COVERS ON THE
HEADS ARE EASIER TO MASK OFF THAN THE VALVE TRAIN.
IT'S JUST WORKING SMARTER.
(KEVIN)>> HEY, WELCOME BACK TO TRUCKS. WELL THE OLD 454 IS LOOKING PRETTY DARN GOOD BY NOW, BUT THESE OLD HEADERS, NOT SO MUCH. THESE GENERIC LONG TUBE HEADERS ACTUALLY DID A PRETTY GOOD JOB DESPITE HAVING A PRETTY THIN FLANGE, AND WE WANT TO THROW THEM IN WITH THE ENGINE BUT NOT LIKE THIS. THEY'RE ALL RUSTY, THE COATING'S COMING OFF, AND WE'RE JUST FRANKLY NOT GONNA BUDGET ANOTHER SET OF HEADERS IN JUST TO SELL THE ENGINE. BUT WE ARE GONNA SHOW YOU GUYS HOW TO CLEAN THESE UP, OR ANY MANIFOLD FOR THAT MATTER, AND HAVE A MORE PERMANENT COATING. IT'S GONNA LOOK A WHOLE LOT BETTER THAN RUST.
OUR BLAST IT ALL CABINET IS LOADED WITH ALUMINUM OXIDE MEDIA, WHICH IS AGGRESSIVE ENOUGH TO GET PRETTY MUCH ANY COATING OFF OF THERE BUT IT DOESN'T PROFILE THE METAL TOO BADLY. MORE AGGRESSIVE BLAST MEDIAS MIGHT ACTUALLY ROUGH UP THE METAL TO THE POINT TO WHERE IT'LL SHOW THROUGH THE COATING THAT WE'RE GONNA PUT ON IT. WE WANT IT SMOOTH SO THE COATING LOOKS SMOOTH. NOW THE HEADERS LOOK REAL GOOD CLEANED UP, AND THEY NEED A COATING. WE'RE NOT GONNA SAND THEM OFF. THIS IS ON THE CHEAP BUT IT HAS TO BE GOOD. SO WE'RE GONNA USE DUPLICOLOR'S HIGH HEAT PAINT. NOW THIS TYPE OF A COATING GETS A BAD WRAP SOMETIMES. IT'S KINDA BECAUSE WE DIDN'T READ ALL THAT FINE PRINT ON THE BACK. BUT THERE IS A TECHNIQUE TO MAKE THIS 1,200 DEGREE HEAT RATED PAINT LIVE UP TO ITS PROMISE, HERE'S HOW. NOW THE FIRST COAT IS A MIST COAT, COMMONLY REFERRED TO IN THE PAINTING WORLD AS A SETUP COAT. WHAT IT DOES IS CREATE A THIN LAYER OF PAINT THAT BONDS TO THE METAL SURFACE. NOW IF YOU STACKED UP A BUNCH OF PAINT IN FAT WET COATS RIGHT FROM THE START, THERE'S A CHANCE YOU'D CREATE A LAYER OF SOLVENT TO WHERE THE PAINT WON'T ACTUALLY STICK. THIS WAY IT DRIES IN STAGES AND MAKES SURE IT
STAYS WHERE YOU PUT IT.
NOW THE CAN SAYS FIVE TO 15 MINUTES BETWEEN COATS, BUT A
GOOD WAY TO TELL WHETHER IT'S READY FOR THE NEXT COAT IS WHETHER THE GLOSS IS DIED DOWN OR NOT. THIS IS A SEMIGLOSS PAINT AND IT'S NOT GONNA BE
SHINY WHEN IT'S DRY. PLUS IT TAKES ABOUT 15 MINUTES TO GET AROUND BOTH HEADERS INSIDE AND OUT. SO THAT'S A GOOD INDICATOR AS WELL. NOW THE BIG SECRET TO SUCCESS FOR THIS WHOLE PROCEDURE ACTUALLY COMES FROM DUPLICOLOR'S WEBSITE. IT INVOLVES A RELATIVELY LOW TEMPERATURE BAKING OF THE PAINTED PARTS. WHAT IT DOES IS COOK OFF THE SOLVENTS AND THE RESINS, LEAVING BEHIND A VERY STRONG LAYER OF LITERALLY COLORED SILICONE.
NOW RIGHT ABOUT NOW YOU'RE PROBABLY SAYING, KEVIN, I DON'T HAVE A POWDERX WALK IN 500 DEGREE OVEN TO COOK MY PARTS IN. WELL YOU DON'T HAVE TO. YOU CAN DO WHAT I DID AT MY HOME SHOP AND JUST BUY A CHEAP ELECTRIC RANGE FROM A JUNK STORE. AND THAT IS $50 DOLLARS WELL SPENT BECAUSE WHATEVER FITS IN THE OVEN, YOU CAN COOK AT POWDER COAT TEMPERATURES, WHICH ARE 400 AND ABOVE, OR COOKING OFF SOME HEADER PAINT, WHICH IS 300 DEGREES FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS. THAT'S CHEAP!
WELL THERE YOU GO, THOSE LOOK PRETTY DARN GOOD. SO YOU'VE GOT A CHOICE. YOU CAN SEND THESE OFF TO BE CERAMIC COATED AND SPEND A COUPLE OF HUNDRED BUCKS, OR YOU CAN SPEND LESS THAN $12 BUCKS AND GET THIS RESULT RIGHT HERE, DECIDE.
(RYAN)>> HEY GUYS, WELCOME BACK TO THE SHOP. WELL WE'VE HAD A CHANCE TO FINISH THE FRESHENING UP OF OUR 454 BIG BLOCK, APPEARANCE WISE ANYWAY. AND WE SHOWED YOU THE MAJORITY OF WHAT WE DID TO CLEAN THIS THING UP, BUT THERE WAS A FEW THINGS WE DIDN'T HAVE A CHANCE TO SHOW YOU.
(KEVIN)>> NOW THE PULLEYS, LIKE THE REST OF THE CHROME, WERE IN PRETTY GOOD SHAPE EXCEPT FOR RIGHT IN HERE. THIS WAS THE DETERIORATED.
SO WHAT DO YOU DO, DO YOU SCRAP THE WHOLE MESS?
NO, WE USED SOME METAL POLISH, POLISHED THE OUTER RING AS WELL AS THE WATER PUMP PULLEY, AND MASKED OFF AND PAINTED INSIDE HERE. IT GIVES IT A TRICK LOOK AND SAVES THE DAY WHEN IT COMES TO
NOT INVESTING MORE MONEY INTO THIS FRONT END SETUP. OH AND BY THE WAY, THE MECHANICAL FAN HAD ALUMINUM BLADES AND A STEEL CENTER. THE BLADES WERE CRACKED. SO WE JUST SAVED SOMEBODY A WHOLE LOT OF TROUBLE BY LEAVING IT OFF.
(RYAN)>> NOW THE INTAKE MANIFOLD WE HAVEN'T BOLTED DOWN JUST IN CASE THE NEW OWNER WANTS TO TAKE A LOOK AT THE LIFTER VALLEY, CHECK OUT THE ROLLER LIFTERS, OR JUST THE OVERALL CLEANLINESS OF THE INSIDE OF THIS ENGINE. NOW THE INTAKE MANIFOLD, WELL YOU SAW US CLEAR COAT IT. IT WAS JUST RAW ALUMINUM. AND THE WATER PUMP, WELL THAT WAS ACTUALLY PAINTED WITH DUPLICOLOR'S CAST COAT ALUMINUM FINISH. IT'S ALMOST A PERFECT MATCH.
(KEVIN)>> NOW THESE ACCEL EIGHT POINT EIGHT MILLIMETER SPIRAL CORE PLUG WIRES WERE A GOOD INVESTMENT, AND THEY'RE STILL IN GOOD SHAPE. NONE OF THE BOOTS ARE FRACTURED OR SPLIT, AND THESE HAVE A LONG LIFE LEFT IN THEM.
THEY WERE JUST DIRTY. SO SOME DEGREASER ON A SHOP TOWEL AND THESE THINGS LOOK BRAND NEW.
(RYAN)>> NOW ONE THING WE DIDN'T PAINT OR CLEAN WAS THE HOLLEY FOUR BARREL CARBURETOR. IT WAS ALREADY IN PRETTY GOOD SHAPE. AND THE ONLY PART WE DID BUY WAS THE NEW MISTER GASKET AIR CLEANER BECAUSE, WELL THE OLD ONE WAS KIND OF CORRODED AND STARTING TO PIT. AND AS INEXPENSIVE AS THESE ARE, WELL IT WASN'T WORTH CLEANING UP THE OLD ONE.
PLUS IT MATCHES OUR MISTER GASKET BREATHER.
SO YOU ADD THE $25 BUCKS WE SPENT ON THE AIR CLEANER TO
THE $25 DOLLARS WE SPENT ON PAINT AND POLISHING SUPPLIES, AND YOU'VE GOT A REASONABLE $50 INVESTMENT. $50 DOLLARS WE'LL GET BACK WHEN WE SELL THIS ENGINE, AND IT'LL ALL BUT GUARANTEE THAT THE FIRST GUY THAT COMES TO LOOK AT THIS THING THAT KNOWS THE PRICE WILL BE TAKING IT HOME IN THE BACK OF HIS PICK UP TRUCK. AND EVEN IF YOU DON'T HAVE AN ENGINE TO SELL, YOU'VE GOT ONE OUT ON A STAND, GO AHEAD AND SPEND SOME TIME CLEANING IT UP.
TAKE A LITTLE BIT OF PRIDE IN THE ENGINE
THAT'S UNDER THE HOOD. IT'S TIME AND MONEY WELL SPENT.
(KEVIN)>> NOW ONE OF THE THINGS WE LIKE SO MUCH ABOUT OUR '71 C-10 PICK UP IS ALL THE FACTORY OPTIONS ON ONE VEHICLE, ESPECIALLY THE CENTER MOUNTED TACH. BUT LIKE A LOT OF OTHER COMPONENTS ON THAT TRUCK, THE GAUGE CLUSTER IS SHOWING ITS AGE. THE NEEDLES ARE SUN BLEACHED, THE CHROME TRIM HAS BEEN
PAINTED OVER, AND THERE'S A BUNCH OF HOLES DRILLED IN IT
THAT ONCE HELD A BILLET COVER. NOW THIS MIGHT HAVE LOOKED GOOD BACK IN THE DAY BUT IT TOO IS OLD AND WORE OUT. BUT BROTHER'S TRUCK PARTS NOW OFFERS A BRAND NEW REPLACEMENT
GAUGE CLUSTER WITH THE CENTER MOUNTED TACH.
THE CHROME TRIM LOOKS BEAUTIFUL, THE CAMERA CASE FINISH IN THE PANEL ITSELF LOOKS GREAT. THE NEEDLES ARE BRIGHT ORANGE, AND IT KINDA TAKES YOU BACK IN TIME BECAUSE THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT THE INTERIOR OF THAT TRUCK LOOKED LIKE ON THE SHOWROOM FLOOR IN 1971. THEY EVEN OFFER A TACH HARNESS IF YOUR TRUCK IS NOT WIRED FOR IT. SO CHECK THEM OUT AT BROTHER'S TRUCKS DOT COM FOR THIS AND OTHER GREAT RESTORATION PARTS. OR COME AND SEE US AT POWERBLOCK TV DOT COM. SEE YOU NEXT TIME!
