TODAY WE'VE GOT A COUPLE OF BOW TIES TO TEST DRIVE CAUSE WE'RE DONE WITH BOTH OF THESE PROJECTS AND I'M SURE YOU GUYS WANT TO SEE HOW THEY PERFORM OUT ON THE STREET. NOW TO GIVE YOU A QUICK LITTLE RECAP ON OUR '71 HERE, WELL IT'S GOT A CAM'ED UP MODERN SIX LITER LS POWER PLANT BACKED UP BY A FOURL-80 TRANSMISSION. WE'VE DONE SUSPENSION WORK, TIRES, WHEELS, BRAKES, WE FRESHENED UP THE LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL, AND KEVIN DID A LITTLE BIT OF PAINT WORK TO MAKE A GOOD LOOKING TRUCK LOOK EVEN BETTER.

(KEVIN)>> NOW WE ALSO WANT TO TEST OUT THE DIFFERENCE IN SOPHISTICATION THAT 30 PLUS YEARS MAKES BETWEEN THE '71 AND THE 2006, AS WELL AS TEST THE TRANSMISSION IMPROVEMENTS THAT WE'VE DONE FOR THIS TRUCK TO SEE WHAT KIND OF DRIVABILITY GAINS THAT WE GET. AND FINALLY TO SEE WHAT KIND OF DIFFERENCE OVERALL THAT WE'VE MADE IN BOTH OF THESE VEHICLE PLATFORMS FROM THE POINT THAT WE STARTED TO WHERE THEY SIT TODAY.

(RYAN)>> NOW THE BLACK TRUCK IS TECHNICALLY THE ONLY BOW TIE WITH THE RED TRUCK BEING A GMC, BUT IT'S A GOOD COMPARISON ANYWAY. NOW WE'VE BEEN WORKING ON THIS TRUCK FOR A WHILE. AND WHEN WE FIRST GOT IT, IT WAS A DECENT BODY WITH A STRONG POWER PLANT, BUT THAT WAS ABOUT IT. WE'VE DONE A LOT OF WORK TO MODERNIZE THIS THING, TO FRESHEN UP THE SUSPENSION AND THE BRAKES. SO WE'RE GONNA GET OFF THESE PUBLIC ROADS AND HEAD TO OUR FAVORITE RACE TRACK, THE NASHVILLE FAIRGROUNDS SPEEDWAY, SO WE CAN TEST THIS THING AND SEE WHERE IT IS IN COMPARISON TO WHERE WE STARTED. NOW WHEN WE FIRST GOT THIS TRUCK IT SAT LOWER THAN STOCK, BUT THE METHOD WAS KINDA CRUDE. SOMEBODY USED A TORCH TO HEAT UP THE COIL SPRINGS. AND WHILE THE TRUCK DID SIT LOWER, IT DIDN'T DO ANYTHING FOR HANDLING. SINCE THEN WE'VE ADDED PERFORMANCE SPRINGS AND SHOCKS, UPGRADED THE FRONT SWAY BAR, AND ADDED A REAR BAR, AND IT'S MADE A BIG DIFFERENCE.

IT COULD USE A QUICKER RATIO STEERING BOX CAUSE THE BOX

THAT'S IN IT KEEPS YOU BUSY BEHIND THE WHEEL WHEN TRYING

TO SNAKE THROUGH THE SLALOM COURSE. NOW YOU GUYS REMEMBER THE LAST TIME WE TRIED A 60 TO

ZERO STOPPING TEST, IT TOOK ABOUT 300 FEET. THIS TIME IT'S MUCH IMPROVED, JUST A LITTLE BIT OF LOCK UP ON THE REAR TIRES. NOW SOME OF THE GAINS CAN BE ATTRIBUTED TO THE DISC BRAKES AT ALL FOUR CORNERS, BUT MY GUESS IS THE BIGGEST

GAIN OR THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE WAS THE UPGRADE TO SOME STICKY MICKEY THOMPSONS. NOW DURING ACCELERATION WE JUST WEREN'T MAKING AN OVERWHELMING AMOUNT OF TORQUE. THAT COULD PROBABLY BE FIXED WITH A FEW CHANGES TO THE TUNE OR MAYBE A LOOSER TORQUE CONVERTER. BUT ONCE THIS THING GOT UP IN THE RPM RANGE WE WERE MAKING PLENTY OF POWER.

NOW TESTING AT THE TRACK IS FUN, BUT THIS IS A FULL ON STREET TRUCK. SO WE HEADED BACK TO WHERE IT'S GOING TO SPEND THE MAJORITY OF ITS TIME. NOW WE DON'T HAVE A TON OF MONEY TIED UP IN THIS OLD PICK UP. AND THE MODIFICATIONS WE MADE MADE IT MUCH MORE VERSATILE. AND I'LL TELL YOU WHAT, THE SUSPENSION WORKED, TIRES AND WHEELS, WORTH EVERY PENNY. THEY TRANSFORMED HOW THIS TRUCK FEELS. NOW YOU'D BE HARD PRESSED TO FIND SOMEBODY WHO DIDN'T LIKE THE STYLING OF THESE OLD C-10 PICK UPS. IT'S JUST GOT A GREAT TIMELESS LOOK TO IT. AND I THINK WE'VE GOT A GOOD BLEND BETWEEN CLASSIC STYLING AND MODERN TECHNOLOGY. ALRIGHT NOW OUR OLD SCHOOL, PARTS STORE ANALOG WATER TEMP GAUGE HAS KIND BEEN JUMPING AROUND ON US A LITTLE BIT. WE WANT TO MAKE SURE WE DON'T OVERHEAT THE ENGINE DOING SOMETHING STUPID. SO WHAT WE'VE DONE IS WE PUT THE USCAN APP ON THE SMART PHONE.

IT'S SHOWING 194 DEGREES. SO WE KNOW WHAT THE ENGINE'S DOING AND WE'RE IN GOOD SHAPE. A LITTLE MODERN TECHNOLOGY FOR OUR OLD TRUCK,

IT'S KINDA COOL. NOW WE LOVE HOW THIS TRUCK TURNED OUT. IT LOOKS LIKE IT DID WHEN WE FIRST GOT IT BUT WE'VE IMPROVED IT IN JUST ABOUT EVERY CATEGORY. NOW ONE OF THE COOLEST THINGS ABOUT THIS TRUCK IS IT STILL LOOKS LIKE A 1971 CHEVY. ALMOST IN PERIOD CORRECT LOOKING WHEELS WITH THE MODERN TWIST TO THEM. DRIVING AROUND IN THIS OLD THING, NO MISTAKING IT'S A '71, BUT WITH A MODERN DRIVETRAIN, AND FUEL INJECTION, AND DISC BRAKES, AND GOOD TIRES AND SUSPENSION, WE REALLY TRANSFORMED THIS THING WITHOUT SPENDING A TON OF MONEY.

WE THINK THE FACE LIFT THAT WE GAVE IT BY PAINTING THE LOWER FASCIA MADE IT LOOK LIKE A MORE EXPENSIVE MODEL, EVEN THOUGH IT'S NOT THE TOP OF THE HEAP THAT THE GENERAL OFFERED. AND EVEN THOUGH WE DO HAVE A NITROUS SYSTEM INSTALLED, FOR THE MOST PART IT STAYS OFF BECAUSE THE FIVETHREE THAT CAME FROM THE FACTORY IS ACTUALLY A PRETTY POTENT POWER PLANT. NOW THE FACTORY CALIBRATION IN MOST AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS LETS YOU SLIP SLIGHTLY BETWEEN GEARS. NOW THAT'S SET UP SO YOU DON'T SPILL YOUR COFFEE ON THE MORNING COMMUTE, BUT IT'S LESS THAT DESIRABLE FOR SPIRITED HIGH PERFORMANCE DRIVING OR EVEN TOWING, MUCH LESS SOME KIND OF A POWER ADDER THAT YOU'RE GONNA THROW AT IT. NOW WE MENTIONED OFF ROAD TESTING A WHILE AGO, BUT IT'S NOT THE TYPE OF OFF ROADING THAT WE USUALLY DO. THIS TIME WE WENT TO FAIRGROUND SPEEDWAY

NASHVILLE AND SET SOME CONES OUT TO SEE HOW THE TRUCK FEELS, AND MORE IMPORTANTLY TO COMPARE HOW IT FEELS NOW THAT WE'VE PUT A LOWERING KIT ON IT, NEW SHOCKS,

BETTER BRAKES, LOWER PROFILE TIRES, AND THE ANSWER IS A LOT BETTER. THE LOWERING KIT ON THIS TRUCK CONSISTS OF DROPPED SPINDLES AND HANGERS. THE SPRINGS, WELL THEY'RE OE AND THEY REMAIN THE SAME JUST LIKE THE SWAY BARS. AND ALTHOUGH BODY ROLL DIDN'T SUFFER OR GET WORSE, IT DIDN'T GET ANY BETTER EITHER. NOW THIS TRUCK IS FACTORY EQUIPPED WITH ABS AND YOU CAN'T REALLY IMPROVE ON THAT.

THIS SUCKER STOPPED ON A DIME OVER AND OVER AGAIN. BUT THE WAY TO REALLY TEST THIS THING OUT IS ZERO TO 60. FLAT FOOTED, THIRD GEAR, JUST FEELS GOOD AND SOLID. NOW THIS TEST IS REALLY ALL ABOUT THE NITROUS AND HOW IT FEELS, AND THE FIRST TWO RUNS WE MADE WERE WITH THE BOTTLE SHUT OFF JUST TO GET A KIND OF A COMPARISON AND

A FEEL FOR THE TRUCK. THE NEXT THREE RUNS WERE WITH THE 125 JETS INSTALLED AND THE BOTTLE CRANKED ON. AND THIS WAS NOT ABOUT MAKING TIRE SMOKE OR POWER, IT WAS TO SEE IF THE TRANSMISSION

WAS STILL SLIPPING. ALRIGHT, WE'RE GONNA PAY ATTENTION TO THE ONETWO SHIFT BECAUSE THAT'S WHERE IT WAS SLIPPING BEFORE. SO UP ON THE CONVERTER AND HERE WE GO.

THERE IT IS! OH YEAH, THAT COMES ON MAN. NOW ALONG WITH THE MECHANICAL UPGRADES WE WERE ABLE TO ELECTRONICALLY INCREASE THE SHIFT POINTS AND LINE PRESSURE, ALL OF WHICH CONTRIBUTED TO MORE OF A HIGH PERFORMANCE FEEL. BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY STOPPED THE TRANSMISSION FROM SLIPPING BETWEEN SHIFTS. THERE WE GO! AND ALL OF THAT MADE IT POSSIBLE FOR US TO PLAY AROUND WITH THE 125 SHOT OF NITROUS WITHOUT CAUSE ANY DAMAGE. NOW OBVIOUSLY A TRANSMISSION SHIFT KIT IS NOT A POWER ADDER. WHAT IT DOES IS MAKE THE POWER TRANSFER FROM THE

ENGINE TO THE WHEELS MORE EFFICIENT, AND LESS EFFICIENCY MEANS SLIPPAGE, BUILDING HEAT, WHICH IS WHAT WE WERE EXPERIENCING ON THE DRAG STRIP, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU THROW A BUNCH OF NITROUS AT IT. SO THIS WILL MAKE THE TRANSMISSION LIVE LONG AND IT ACTUALLY FEELS PRETTY COOL. NICE FIRM SHIFTS LETS YOU KNOW THAT THINGS ARE KINDA SPORTY. NOW EVEN THOUGHT THE '71 CHEYENNE HAD ALL THE BELLS AND WHISTLES OF THE DAY, ALL THE LUXURY THEY COULD POSSIBLY STUFF INTO THAT CAB, THIS TRUCK IS MILES AHEAD OF IT. THERE'S NO WIND NOISE, THERE'S A GREAT ROAD FEEL, AND IT JUST PROVES THAT 30 PLUS YEARS OF R&D AND REFINEMENT IN A PICK UP TRUCK, WELL IT REALLY DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE. AND ALTHOUGH I WOULD USE THE '71 C-10 AS A DAILY DRIVER, I WOULD SMILE WHILE I WAS DRIVING THIS BACK AND FORTH TO WORK EVERYDAY.

THIS IS A NICE LOOKING PICK UP TRUCK, AND IN MY OPINION WE MADE IT NICER. AND ON TOP OF THAT AT THE END OF THE DAY IT'S STILL A DUAL PURPOSE PICK UP TRUCK, WHERE YOU COULD PLAY AROUND WITH IT ON THE WEEKEND AND IT'S STILL GOT ENOUGH GRUNT TO WHERE YOU COULD PULL A SMALL TRAILER WITH IT. SO WELL DONE US!
