(ANNOUNCER)>> TODAY WE'RE WRAPPING UP PROJECT WILD FRONTIER AND GOING OUT FOR A BACKWOODS TEST AND SOME TARGET PRACTICE. WE'LL FINISH UP OUR '07 NISSAN WITH A NEW FRONT BULL BAR AND WINCH, REAR BUMPER, LOCKABLE STORAGE, AND A GPS TRAIL MAPPING SYSTEM. THEN IT'S ON THE ROAD TO GET OFF ROAD, TESTING OUT THE TRUCK AND OUR SHOOTING SKILLS. IT'S ALL TODAY HERE ON TRUCK TECH.

(RYAN)>> HEY GUYS, WELCOME TO TRUCK TECH. TODAY WE'VE GOT PROJECT WILD FRONTIER BACK IN THE SHOP. NOW THIS IS MIKE GALLEY'S '07 NISSAN FRONTIER HUNTING THEMED RIG.

NOW THE FIRST ROUND OF UPGRADES FOCUSED ON INCREASING THE GROUND CLEARANCE AND OFF ROAD CAPABILITY OF THIS TRUCK. WE ADDED A SIX INCH LIFT KIT, 35 INCH RUBBER, REGEARED DIFFERENTIALS, AND A SELECTABLE LOCKER OUT BACK FOR BETTER TRACTION. TODAY WE'RE GONNA BE ADDING HEAVY DUTY BUMPERS, SUPPLEMENTAL LIGHTING, A RECOVER WINCH JUST IN CASE MIKE GETS INTO A TOUGH SPOT OR NEEDS TO DRAG SOME BIG GAME UP A HILL. WE'RE ALSO GONNA BE ADDING SOME PARTS AND ACCESSORIES TO MAKE SURE THIS THING LOOKS THE PART AND IS WELL SUITED AND WELL EQUIPPED FOR A BACK COUNTRY HUNTING TRIP. AND AT THE END OF THE DAY WE'RE GONNA TAKE THIS THING OUT IN THE WOODS, PLAY AROUND A LITTLE BIT, AND SHOOT SOME GUNS.

BUT FIRST THINGS FIRST, WE'RE GONNA GET STARTED ON THE FRONT END OF THIS TRUCK.

(JEREMY)>> NOW AFTER REMOVING SOME OF THE KEY PIECES OF OUR FRONT END, THE FIRST STEP IS TO TAKE THIS PAPER TEMPLATE THAT COMES WITH THE KIT AND MARK THE AREA TO BE CUT OUT ON OUR FRONT TRIM PANEL.

NOW ONCE WE'VE GOT THE AREA MARKED OUT, WE'LL LAY OUT SOME TWO INCH TAPE, AND THIS SERVES TWO PURPOSES. TO HELP PROTECT OUR PAINT AND ALSO GIVE US A DISTINCTIVE LINE TO FOLLOW WHILE WE MAKE OUR CUT.

(RYAN)>> THERE'S SOME BRACING I HAVE TO CUT THROUGH AS WELL. [ saw buzzing ]

(JEREMY)>> NOW TO CLEAN UP OUR EDGE WE'LL INSTALL

THIS RUBBER MOLDING THAT CAME WITH THE KIT.

AND THE NEXT STEP IS TO DO AWAY WITH THE FACTORY CRUSH BEAM ALONG WITH THE TOW HOOK THAT WE'LL REINSTALL LATER.

THE ARB BUMPER BRACKETS BOLT RIGHT IN THE FACTORY LOCATION, AND WE'LL REINSTALL THE FACTORY TOW HOOK. [ air drill spinning ] AND IT'S ALSO A GOOD IDEA TO LEAVE THE BRACKETS A LITTLE LOOSE FOR RIGHT NOW.

THAT WAY WE'LL HAVE ROOM TO ADJUST LATER.

(RYAN)>> NOW WE'RE GONNA BE REPLACING THE KINDA FLIMSY FACTORY BUMPER WITH THIS HEAVY DUTY ARB BULL BAR. IT'S NOT ONLY GONNA PROVIDE A LOT OF FRONT END PROTECTION, IT'S GONNA SERIOUSLY IMPROVE THE LOOKS OF THIS FRONTIER. NOW THE BUMPER INCLUDES A PAIR OF FOG LIGHTS, BUT WE'RE ALSO ADDING SOME SERIOUS HEAVY DUTY IPF 900 DUAL BEAM LIGHTS. NEEDLESS TO SAY LIGHTING UP THE WOODS IN EARLY MORNING OR LATE NIGHT WON'T BE A PROBLEM. AND WITH THE PROTECTIVE COVER, WELL WE WON'T BUST THE LENSES OUT WHILE PUSHING THROUGH SOME BRUSH. WE'RE ALSO GONNA BE OUTFITTING THE BUMPER WITH A WARN XD 9,000 WINCH. IT'LL MOUNT CLEANLY BEHIND THE BUMPER AND IT'LL OFFER

UP PLENTY OF POWER IN CASE WE DO HAPPEN TO GET STUCK. ALRIGHT, TOP BOLTS FIRST, THEN I'LL TRY TO HOLD THE WINCH IN PLACE AND LINE THOSE NUTS UP WHILE SUPPORTING THE WEIGHT.

(JEREMY)>> NOW OUR XD 9,000 COMES WITH 100 FEET OF FIVESIXTEENTH STEEL GALVANIZED WIRE ROPE AND A ROLLER FAIRLEAD.

(RYAN)>> SHOULD HAVE GLUED THESE IN LIKE LUG NUTS ON A NASCAR.

(JEREMY)>> NOW THIS WINCH COMES WITH A SEPARATE CONTROL BOX THAT ALLOWS FOR A WIDE RANGE OF MOUNTING OPTIONS, AND WE OPTED MOUNT OURS ON THE TOP OF OUR BUMPER.

NOW WE'RE LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE A KUNDEL OVERHEAD CRANE IN THE SHOP, BUT IF YOU'RE INSTALLING THIS IN YOUR DRIVEWAY, YOU MAY NEED A COUPLE OF BUDDIES OR AN ENGINE HOIST. AND THE LAST STEP IS TO WIRE IN OUR FOG LIGHTS TO THE NISSAN'S FACTORY TURN SIGNAL AND CLEARANCE HARNESS.

(ANNOUNCER)>> AFTER THE BREAK WE'LL GET OUR REAR BUMPER AND GPS SYSTEM INSTALLED. AND LATER WE'LL SEE IF PROJECT WILD FRONTIER LIVES UP TO ITS NAME, STAY TUNED!

(RYAN)>> HEY GUYS, WELCOME BACK TO THE SHOP. NOW THE INSTALLATION OF OUR BULL BAR IS COMPLETE, BUT TO FINISH THINGS UP ON THE FRONT END OF THIS NISSAN WE'VE GOT TO REINSTALL OUR BUSHWACKER FENDER FLARES. BUT THEY WERE DESIGNED AND ENGINEERED TO WORK WITH THE FACTORY BUMPER, WHICH MEANS TO GET THEM TO WORK

WITH OUR AFTERMARKET PIECE IS GONNA TAKE A COUPLE OF MODIFICATIONS. NO BIG DEAL, IT'S NOTHING A CUT OR TWO CAN'T FIX. NOW I'VE GOT THE FENDER FLARE LOOSELY BOLTED IN PLACE SO I CAN GET AN IDEA ON WHERE THIS THING NEEDS TO BE TRIMMED.

AND SINCE IT'S A LOT EASIER TO CUT MORE PLASTIC OFF THAN IT IS TO ADD IT BACK ON, I'M BEING A LITTLE CONSERVATIVE WITH MY FIRST CUT.

NOW WITH THE FIRST CUT MADE I MADE A LITTLE BIT OF PROGRESS BUT CLEARLY I'VE GOT SOME MORE PLASTIC TO TRIM. SO TIME TO MAKE ANOTHER LINE AND MAKE ANOTHER CUT.

ALRIGHT, THAT LOOKS PRETTY GOOD.

GOT A GOOD BODY GAP AND WE'RE FINISHED UP. LET'S MOVE ON TO THE REAR BUMPER. NOW THE BUMPER FOR THE BACK OF THE TRUCK, JUST LIKE THE FRONT, CAME FROM ARB. IT'S THEIR REAR STEP BUMPER FOR '05 TO 2010 NISSAN FRONTIERS. IT'S A MOSTLY TUBULAR DESIGN, IT'S KINDA COOL. IT OFFERS UP SOME PROTECTION FOR THE VULNERABLE SHEETMETAL AT THE LOWER REAR BED SIDE. IT'S GOT SOME ANCHOR POINTS AND AN INTEGRATED TOW HITCH THAT MATCHES THE FACTORY RATING. AND INSTALLATION SHOULDN'T TAKE MUCH TIME AT ALL. AND WITH THE FACTORY REAR BUMPER OUT OF THE WAY, YOU CAN FLATTEN DOWN THESE TABS ON BOTH

REAR FRAME RAILS. THEN YOU CAN INSTALL THE NEW BUMPER.

THEN BOLT IT INTO PLACE. NOW LIKE WE MENTIONED, THIS IS A REAR STEP BUMPER. AND TO ALLOW YOU TO STEP UP ON IT IT'S GOT ROOM IN BETWEEN THE TAILGATE AND THE TUBULAR BUMPER. SO TO FILL THAT VOID IN BETWEEN THE TWO THEY PROVIDE THIS SHEETMETAL FILLER PANEL.

NOW BEFORE INSTALLING THE TREAD PLATE, JEREMY'S

LAYING DOWN A FEW BEADS OF CAULKING. NOW THE ALUMINUM'S ALSO BOLTED INTO PLACE.

SO I'M SURE THE CAULKING IS THERE JUST TO KILL OR MUTE ANY RATTLES.

(JEREMY)>> GET OUR LIGHTS AND LICENSE PLATE ON AND WE'LL HAVE IT FINISHED UP. CLIP THAT IN.

COOL, BE A TOUGH LOOKING TRUCK.

(RYAN)>> NOW TO GIVE THIS TRUCK SOME LOCKABLE STORAGE OUTSIDE OF THE CAB WE'RE ADDING THIS LUND BLACK DIAMOND PLATE TOOL BOX. IT DOESN'T TAKE UP A TON OF SPACE AND IT'LL BE A GOOD ADDITION TO THIS PICK UP. NOW THE HOLES WE'RE DRILLING LINE UP WITH PREEXISTING HOLES IN THE BED. WE'RE GONNA UTILIZE THESE THREADED HOLES FROM THE FACTORY CARGO TIE DOWNS. WE JUST NEED LONGER BOLTS.

NO PROBLEM, WE'VE GOT AN ASSORTMENT

FROM INDUSTRIAL DEPOT. GOT TWO BOLTS IN THE BOTTOM, TWO BOLTS IN THE BACK, THIS THING'S NOT GOING ANYWHERE.

(JEREMY)>> WON'T BE USING THAT ANYMORE. NOW WITH THE FACTORY WEATHER STRIPPING REMOVED WE CAN INSTALL OUR CAMOUFLAGE STAMPEDE HOOD PROTECTOR. AND WE ALSO PICKED UP STAMPEDE'S WINDOW DEFLECTORS, AND INCLUDED IN THE KIT THEY SEND YOU ALCOHOL PADS TO CLEAN THE AREA OF THE DOOR WHERE THEY'RE GONNA GO AND ALSO AN ADHESION PROMOTOR FOR A SECURE INSTALLATION. AND WHAT I LIKE TO DO BEFORE REMOVING THE

ADHESIVE BACKING IS HOLD THE DEFLECTOR TO THE DOOR AND MAKE A MARK WHERE THEY'RE GONNA GO. THIS WAY YOU HAVE A GOOD GUIDE BEFORE YOU ACTUALLY STICK THEM ON PERMANENTLY.

AND ONCE YOU'VE GOT THEM WHERE YOU WANT THEM, REMOVE THE REST OF THE BACKING AND GIVE THEM A GOOD FIRM PRESS. AND THE SAME GOES FOR THE REAR DOOR.

NOW SINCE MIKE'S GONNA BE IN THE WOODS IN HIS NISSAN, WE PICKED UP THIS LOWRANCE HDSSEVEN GPS UNIT. NOW YOU GUYS ARE FAMILIAR WITH A FISH FINDER? THIS BASICALLY TAKES THAT TECHNOLOGY OUT OF THE WATER AND PUTS IT ONTO THE TRAIL. THIS DEVICE COMES WITH A LARGE TOUCH SCREEN THAT'S SHOCK, VIBRATION, AND WATER RESISTANT. IT HOLDS OVER 100,000 ROUTE POINTS AND HAS AN OPTIONAL VIDEO AND SATELLITE RADIO INPUT. IT COMES WITH A POINT ONE GPS EXTERNAL ANTENNA, HARDWARE TO INSTALL, RUGGED ROUTES TRAIL MAP SOFTWARE, AND THIS PRETTY COOL HOUSING TO MOUNT OUR HDSSEVEN IN THE DASH. TO ROUTE OUR GPS ANTENNA CABLE THE FIRST STEP IS TO REMOVE THIS ROOF CONSOLE SO WE CAN DRILL OUR HOLE.

AND BEFORE USING OUR STEP BIT I LIKE TO LAY DOWN A

PIECE OF TAPE SO WE CAN PROTECT OUR EXTERIOR PAINT. OUR ANTENNA COMES WITH A WEATHERPROOF GASKET, BUT JUST FOR A LITTLE EXTRA PROTECTION WE'RE GONNA ADD LOCTITE READY GASKET TO OUR TWO ADDITIONAL SCREWS. THAT WAY WE'LL BE SURE TO KEEP THE WATER OUT.

(RYAN)>> NOW TO GET THE CABLE FROM THE ANTENNA DOWN TO THE GPS JEREMY'S USING A PIECE OF TIG WELDING WIRE TO HELP ROUTE THE CABLE UNDERNEATH THE HEADLINER AND DOWN THE APILLAR. THEN HE ROUTED THE CABLE BEHIND THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND TO THE CENTER OF THE DASH. ONCE THAT WAS DONE WE CAN REINSTALL THE RADIO SURROUND. NOW THIS PIECE OF PLASTIC HERE NEEDS TO BE TRIMMED

OUT IN ORDER TO MAKE ROOM FOR THE DISPLAY UNIT MOUNTING BRACKET. AND WITH THE BRACKET POPPED IN PLACE, YOU CAN SECURE IT WITH A FEW SCREWS.

(JEREMY)>> A COUPLE OF CONNECTIONS.

(RYAN)>> NOW THE SEVEN INCH HIGH DEFINITION TOUCH SCREEN IS EASY TO READ. THE MAPS ARE CLEAR AND DETAILED, AND CAN BE VIEWED IN TWO OR THREED PERSPECTIVES.

(JEREMY)>> NOW THAT'S PRETTY COOL. WELL IF MIKE GETS LOST NOW, IN THE WOODS OR ON THE HIGHWAY, THAT'S HIS OWN FAULT.

(ANNOUNCER)>> WHEN WE COME BACK WE'LL HIT THE WOODS

AND MAYBE SOME TARGETS, STICK AROUND.

(RYAN)>> HEY GUYS, WELCOME BACK TO TRUCK TECH. NOW WE'RE OBVIOUSLY OUT OF THE SHOP. WE'RE UP HERE AT MIKE GALLEY'S HUNTING LEASE SO WE CAN TEST OUT PROJECT WILD FRONTIER, SEE HOW IT

DOES ON ROAD AND OFF. AND IF WE'VE GOT SOME SPARE TIME, MAYBE DO A LITTLE TARGET SHOOTING, HAVE SOME FUN.

FIRST UP, GETTING OUT ON THE ROAD TO SEE WHAT KIND

OF HIGHWAY MANNERS THIS THING'S GOT. NOW WE'RE DOING ABOUT 60 MILES AN HOUR, NO SHAKES, NO SHIMMIES, AND NO TIRE NOISE OR HOWL, WHICH IS NICE. USUALLY THE MORE AGGRESSIVE TIRES ROAR AT HIGHWAY SPEED, THESE DON'T. NOW EVEN WITH THE SIX INCH LIFT KIT AND TALL TIRES THIS THING RIDES AND HANDLES SURPRISINGLY WELL. IT SHOULD RIDE PRETTY CLOSE TO STOCK.

IT'S SITTING ON THE STOCK COIL SPRINGS AND LEAF SPRINGS.

IT DOES HAVE A HIGHER CENTER OF GRAVITY, SO

GOTTA ACCOUNT FOR A LITTLE BIT MORE BODY ROLL. BUT OTHER THAN THAT IT'S PRETTY MUCH LIKE STOCK. I'M SURE THIS TRUCK WEIGHS A LITTLE BIT MORE THAN IT USED TO, AND THE 35'S ARE DEFINITELY HEAVIER THAN THE STOCK TIRES. BUT THE POWER STOP BRAKE UPGRADE CERTAINLY HELPS OUT. BUT ENOUGH OF THE PAVED ROAD, LETS GET THIS THING OFF THE BEATEN PATH.

NOW HERE IN THE FIELD AND ON FLAT LAND, THIS THING'S OBVIOUSLY GOT NO PROBLEMS AND THE TRUCK IS SOAKING UP THE BUMPS, MAKING FOR A PRETTY SMOOTH RIDE.

NOW THE GOOD HUNTING SPOTS TYPICALLY AREN'T EASY TO GET TO. AND IF THIS TRUCK WAS STILL STOCK IT WOULDN'T HAVE JUST DONE THAT. NOW THE EXTRA GROUND CLEARANCE FROM THE SIX INCH LIFT KIT AND TALL MORE AGGRESSIVE TIRES LETS US GO PLACES IN THIS TRUCK OTHER PEOPLE MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO GET TO.

(MIKE)>> NOW WE'RE GONNA TAKE A LOOK AT THE RUGGED

ROUTE'S LOWRANCE GPS AND NAVIGATION UNIT RYAN AND JEREMY INSTALLED. NOW I'VE BEEN ABLE TO PLAY WITH A LITTLE BIT AND IT'S REALLY COOL. NOW WHAT WE'RE GONNA DO IS SITTING RIGHT HERE IN THE FIELD, WE'RE GONNA START OUR FIRST WAYPOINT. THEN WE'RE GONNA DRIVE AROUND THE PERIMETER OF THE FIELD AND IT'LL SET THE OTHER WAYPOINTS

AS WE GO AND MAKE DIRECTION CHANGES. THEN WE CAN ACTUALLY DOWNLOAD THAT ONTO A MEMORY CARD AND HAVE IT. SO IF WE EVER GET LOST ON THIS PROPERTY, WE KNOW OUR WAY OUT.

(RYAN)>> NOW THE TRUCK WAS DOING GREAT. SO WE THOUGHT WE'D TRY OUT THIS LITTLE MUD HOLE. AND AFTER THE FRONT END SANK DOWN, WELL WE THOUGHT WE MIGHT BE GETTING IN OVER OUR HEADS. WELL WE FIGURED, HECK, WE'VE GOT A WINCH ON THE FRONT OF THIS THING, LET'S GO FOR IT.

WE'RE EITHER GONNA MAKE IT OR WE'RE GONNA BE REALLY STUCK.

JUST GOTTA LET HER EAT FOR A LITTLE WHILE.

THAT'S ONE WAY TO DO IT BABY. GOT A LITTLE SLICK DOWN THERE IN THAT MUD HOLE.

GLAD WE ROLLED THE WINDOWS UP TOO CAUSE THAT MUD DOES

NOT SMELL VERY GOOD. THIS SIDE'S A LITTLE CLEANER.

THE OTHER SIDE GOT COATED PRETTY GOOD. GLAD WE GOT OUT OF THERE.

(JEREMY)>> HEY GUYS, WELCOME BACK TO TRUCK TECH AND THE PAYOFF FOR PROJECT WILD FRONTIER, MIKE GALLEY'S '07 NISSAN. WE'RE OUT HERE ON THIS 102 ACRE LEASE AND WE'RE GONNA TAKE THE TRUCK OUT AND HAVE A LITTLE FUN.

(MIKE)>> FUN FOR ME DOESN'T ALWAYS INVOLVE FAST CARS AND DYNOS.

I'M DIE HARD OUTDOORSMAN WHO LOVES HUNTING BIG GAME WITH MY BOW. NOW I'VE SHOT THE ALL AND A HOYT IS THE ONLY ONE YOU'LL FIND IN MY HAND. IT'S A CARBON MATRIX SHOOTING GOLD TIP SHAFTS AND ACCURACY SPEAKS FOR ITSELF.

[ gun firing ]

(RYAN)>> NOW I'M NOT MUCH OF AN ARCHER OR A HUNTER, BUT I DO ENJOY FIRING OFF A FEW ROUNDS AT A TARGET OR TWO.

AND THE GUYS FROM REMINGTON ARE LETTING US

TRY OUT A MODEL 700 MOUNTAIN STAINLESS IN .308 WITH A LEUPOLD THREENINE BY 40 SCOPE WITH AN ILLUMINATED MILL DOT RETICLE.

(MIKE)>> IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR THE ULTIMATE PRODUCTION HUNTING RIFFLE THE REMINGTON 700 MOUNTAIN SS IS HARD TO BEAT. THIS THING'S SITTING IN A BELL AND CARLSON STOCK, HAS A 22 INCH CONTOURED MOUNTAIN BARREL, AND AN XMARK PRO TRIGGER THAT'S EXTERNALLY ADJUSTED. IT'S HARD TO BEAT IT, ESPECIALLY ONLY WEIGHING AT SIX AND A HALF POUNDS. EASY CARRYING OUT IN THE BACK COUNTRY AND THAT'S WITHOUT THE EYE WEAR. [ gun firing ]

(BILLY)>> THE BEAUTY OF THIS MOUNTAIN STAINLESS IS IT'S REALLY STRIPPED DOWN TO WHAT YOU NEED IN THE FIELD IN ORDER TO HUNT.

AND IT HAS ALL OF THE ACCURACY AND ALL THE PRECISION THAT COMES WITH A REMINGTON 700.

[ gun firing ] [ gun firing ]

(JEREMY)>> LOOKS LIKE PROJECT WILD FRONTIER WAS A SUCCESS. IT HANDLED REALLY WELL ON THE ROAD AND WE COULDN'T

ASK FOR MORE ON THE TRAIL.

ITS GONNA BE A REALLY COOL HUNTING RIG. THE ONLY PROBLEM IS WE GOT THIS TRUCK PRETTY DIRTY, BUT THAT'S MIKE'S PROBLEM. AND I'M GONNA USE THIS GPS TO GET ME THE HECK OUT OF HERE. [ gun firing ]

(JEREMY)>> NOWADAYS REMINGTON IS KNOWN FOR MORE THAN JUST THEIR GUNS. THEY BRANCHED OUT INTO AUTOMOTIVE ACCESSORIES AND

THEY'VE GOT A NEW LINE OF WHEELS THAT'LL FIT ALMOST ANYTHING. WHETHER IT'S THIS 14 INCH WHEEL FOR YOUR ATV, GOLF CART, OR TRAILER, ALL THE WAY UP TO THIS 22 INCH FOR YOUR TRUCK. AND TO SECURE THOSE WHEELS YOU CAN USE REMINGTON'S PREMIUM CENTER FIRE LUG NUTS.

AND THEY'RE DESIGNED TO LOOK LIKE A SPENT

CENTER FIRE SHELL. AND THEY ALSO CARRY A LINE OF EXHAUST TIPS THAT COME IN FOUR OR FIVE DIAMETER, WHICH ARE BOLT OR WELD ON. YOU CAN GET IT IN STAINLESS STEEL OR POWDER COATED FOR A LITTLE MORE PROTECTION ON THE TRAIL, AND THEY COME WITH THESE PRETTY COOL GUN SIGHTS. SO IF YOU'RE LOOKING TO OUTFIT YOUR RIG, CHECK OUT REMINGTON DOT COM. NOW WE KNOW THAT ZMAX IS WELL KNOWN FOR THEIR AUTOMOTIVE LUBRICANTS BUT THEY ALSO CARRY GUN LUBRICANTS. THE KIT COMES WITH BOLT LUBE AND BORE CLEANER, AND

THE LUBRICANT ACTUALLY SOAKS INTO THE METAL, WHICH GIVES IT A REDUCED CARBON BUILD UP. PARTICLES ARE PREVENTED FROM ADHERING TO THE METAL

AND METAL PARTS STAY LUBRICATED. AND WHAT I LIKE ABOUT IT, IT'S A FAST AND EASY CLEAN UP. HEY GUYS, THANKS FOR WATCHING TRUCK TECH, SEE YOU NEXT TIME!
