Xtreme 4x4 Builds

Video Transcript

Today on Xtreme 4x4, the team hits the road to build a Baha

Prerunner style pickup and won't come home until it's fully tested. Plus smoke means power at the diesel nationals.

Welcome to Xtreme 4x4. And our show on the road, we're in Denver, Colorado right smack dab in the middle of the four parts truck fest

is like bargain town for off roading. Anything you can imagine to beef up your truck. It's here. All of the top manufacturers kind of a one stop off road shop with all the new stuff. Speaking of new stuff, you're probably wondering what the heck we're doing here

invited us here to,

to this 2005 Ford F 150

build a Wild Prerunner using their six inch coil over lift a bunch of hardcore performance goodies and some Wild accessories, but with only two days to do this and all these people watching, we better get to work. Are you guys ready

to see this?

We're installing Pro

Comp's new six inch coil over lift kit for this F 150. It comes with new nodular knuckles, a couple of new coil overs and all the drop brackets required. Now, we knew we didn't have very much time to install this kit. So we came in ahead of time and we

the

drop brackets for the lower control arm and slipped in these front coil overs. All I have left to do is put this nodular knuckle back up to the upper ball joint and this is kind of a tricky job. You need some help. So I surveyed the crowd and I found a really highly skilled guy to give me a hand Dion. Come here, man.

I checked with everyone and he became most qualified.

There we go. So. All right, Dan, here's what we're gonna do. Are you ready to put that in there?

You want to turn that over Deon like this man?

Perfect. There you go. Now take that up

when you're asking for help. It's always good to make sure that you get someone that's very highly skilled and that way they can double check your work. Does that look good, man?

Thanks for coming, man. Good work. Come back. Anytime Dion

for the rear

suspension on our free runner, we're going to be using pro

Comps, MX six reservoir shocks, both front and rear. They got a six way adjust ability and they're charged with nitrogen at 300 P si to smooth out those rough bumps when running over the desert

and to get that lift, we're going to be using these three inch blocks in between the axle and the leaves

when this truck is finished, it's going to have a set of 37 inch tires that's a larger rotating mass and we're going to be pulling a lot more power out of that 5.4. So we need improved braking power. So to accomplish that, here's what we're going to install a

set of vented and slotted bare dec

seller rotors.

We're done building this.

We're going to take it to an off road park and test it pretty hard. So to eliminate any possibility of

wh

in the rear, we're going to be using pros

traction bars,

got the race style double tubing

and we're going to be using these reverse hourglass pushing

help with our articulation.

This is an easy bolt on.

First thing we got to do is get the lower you

mo

on so we can also put on our

attract bar.

Once the front mountain is in,

you got

with the truck up in the air, we can slip some tires underneath it and we're going to be installing the new Pro

Comp extreme All Terrain Series. This is the first dual purpose tire that's an all terrain directional tread in the industry. And we got 37 by 13 fives, we had them put on Pro

Comp's Extreme Series 18 by nine aluminum wheels that we had powder coated black.

After the break. Ian and Jessi continued jamming on the prerunner and later on,

there's nothing like the smell of bird.

She's got that right. Some modern day tractor pulling

when Xtreme 4x4 continues.

Welcome back to Extreme where Ian and I are building up this Ford F 150 Pro

prerunner here at the Denver truck fest.

You know, for

parts of the nation's largest distributor of two and four will drive parts and accessories and about eight times per year, they bring together some of their 150 manufacturers and invite the public for free to check out the latest in off road stuff.

And let me tell you, it's like a party in here.

The trucks

are great shows for us because we really get to interact with the consumer. We get to deal with them on a one on one basis and we really get to get our product information to them straight from the manufacturers representatives, four

parts which has been in business over 42 years has really started and that's the wheeling and dealing aspect of it. You come down and

we call it the kind of the take the gloves off approach and that is

down and make a deal. We bring product down here and we don't want to take it home.

I'm here with

Jason Ball.

Where are you from? Jason Denver, Colorado from here. Yes, I am right on what you buy today. I got me a safari top for my YJ Jeep Wrangler. All right. What kind of deal did you give him? I'm gonna give him a couple bucks off that couple percent, a couple.

Yeah, just

some more

darn.

Yeah. I mean, we're probably going to swing him about a 25% off right now. And then,

you know, if he wants us to put it on, we're probably gonna do that for free today.

We're going to start under the hood with A K and NF IP K air intake system, blow the exhaust or a set of JB A headers and then into a magna flow cap back stainless exhaust system.

And finally, we'll add some serious power with the Hyper tech hyper pack power programmer. And inside the cab, we're going to install three low back Mastercraft suspension seats, one in the rear to give us room for a pack

plus lots of interior cargo space. Then we can finish it off with a set of comp certified harnesses

and I's

favorite window nets.

I do love those window nets. And once I get this front axle back in,

I can start concentrating on the performance side of this engine to

speed this up. We've decided to divide and conquer this thing.

I'll strip the interior while I

works under the hood.

Mastercraft does have direct fit mouse to install these seats into almost any truck, but we're going with the custom layout. So we built these seat brackets that'll bolt right into the truck's original mounts in the floor.

The K and N fuel injection performer kit is guaranteed horsepower in a box. The nice thing is each kit is engineered for the specific vehicle. So bolting it in is easy as Pie

Master Craft is the original suspension seat manufacturer and these tailor made seats are going to offer us great support and comfort. While counting this truck off road,

the five point harnesses will keep us super safe.

The JB A Titanium headers are engineered with heavy duty features and patented technology.

These headers will increase our engine's power even more throughout the entire RPM range.

Trucks starting to look cool. And once we get this hypertech hyper pack installed, we're gonna have more power than we know what to do with right

now that we have this truck ready to perform like a free runner. It's time for us to get this board looking like a pre runner and that means flared out fiberglass fenders, a custom fabricated rear, double two bumper,

front light bar

and the safari rack fitted with eight inch pro comp 130 watt lights

plus Troy and Richard here from Ape raps to wrap this thing up.

And the last thing to put in this truck is a custom bed rack where we can carry extra gas, two spare tires and a power tank CO2 tank.

It's no fun building them if they won't let you break them,

Jessey

and try their best coming up

four by

four.

So nice. The four parts girls to help us out as you can see our F 153 runner is taking shape. But now for something, a little different tractor polls are about as American as baseball and apple pie. But the rigs you see at the fairgrounds nowadays are a little bit more sophisticated than grandpa's old John Deere,

once known as Thunder. And

this year the Diesel Hot Rod Association

with the event 60 miles south to Indianapolis Raceway Park.

Diesel truck's biggest event featured three classes of sled pulling. Everybody's pulling for distance down the track. When I mash that pedal, it just explodes under your foot, man. It is awesome.

It's intense. Like just wide open throttle going as slow as possible. Telling that big thing, that big thing is the sled which can weigh up to 36,000 pounds.

There's just nothing like the feeling, the twisting action, the torque taking up to about 4500 RPM. S you're letting the clutch out.

The turbo is just starting to scream

because the load is being put on it. You just can't beat it. There's so much torque in these monsters that it could even crack the windshield

in this grudge match. The sled usually wins.

Breaking is part of pulling, I guess just like Robins racing.

We've had some bad rides over the years. Some of them are ugly.

The

most that you join in the front chat, uh, pulling one of the wheels. So

pulling it off to the side there.

Let's just let it all hang out. If

it breaks, it breaks, you take it back to the shop and you fix it

with more than 20 wins. The big bad sled doesn't intimidate Van Haisley and his rock hard

would be the

oldest

of all of us.

I mean, there's nothing else like it competing in the modified class. His machine is fired from street legal. This truck is good for nothing but a 15 2nd thrill ride. That's all. It's good for this particular truck you see started

life as a white Dooley. Once it lived its life on the street, then we took it off the street, welded it up, chopped it up and made what you see today, what you see now produces massive amounts of diesel power. We make a right at around 14, 1500 horse torque is about 1800 ft pounds because of the competitiveness of this sport. We keep the hoods closed on these particular trucks.

But in this particular venue, we'll pop the hoods

and this here is a 360 cubic inch

cummins Power plant twin turbo.

Sure apologize for not being clean guys. That's something that doesn't get seen too often.

What does get seen is diesel's trademark black smoke. There's nothing like the smell of bird people.

This particular stack here is not for show people wonder why we put a six inch stack,

but you've got to exit this smoke. This smoke is going to go 90 ft smoke is back pressure. So the quicker we can get this out of the turbocharger and exit the vehicle. It's very important this smokes

and, you know, when you're building power, when that smoke goes 90 ft straight up, you know, you're going to have a good run,

easily, had the smoke going but fell short and finished in second place.

This colossal event also featured pavement drags,

a burnout contest and a couple of Hoosiers who figured out a way to beat the heat.

Midwest ingenuity was also on display at the show in shine.

Some women like jewelry, some women like malls, but I just love diesel

catching the eye of the judges was Jared Grigson GMC. I like to show my truck. I'm proud of it

and lo and behold, I won and didn't know what to say.

We're back on Xtreme 4x4 an hour outside of Denver with our new F 150 pre runner style truck.

As she sits, this stock half done has been completely upgraded inside out

with a Pro

C six inch coal over suspension system. 37 inch pro comp, all terrain tires, plus a host of performance goodies and custom accessories from pro comp, a safari style roof rack bed carrier and free runner light bar

and an A PE RP will finish off this show truck. This thing is going to look great anywhere it goes. But before it starts the four wheel parts show circuit, we're going to put it through its paces at Colorado off road. Extreme.

All right. So, are you ready to drive this here or what? Well, I think we decide who's gonna drive it first and I've come up with a solution. We'll flip a coin.

But I think Shawna here is gonna flip it for us. Shanna. Come on in here

and you're gonna flip that coin and I'll even let you call her, I'll call her head,

get the

first.

I'll put that quarterback. That's

a

lot

you can't tell right now. But I'm smiling

since we had driven the truck yet.

I took it a little easy on the first lap just to get a feel for the suspension.

And then I picked up the base just a little bit,

obviously taking your brand new truck and doing this to it is not recommended, but we're pushing this beyond its limits to see how far the suspension can go.

And believe me,

this thing works great.

Even though this F 150 is equipped with the bolt on suspension system,

you got to remember the front end is riding on pro

runner two inch coil overs.

These coil overs are equipped with big bo mono

tube technology and multi

disc valving on this truck. We have an optional external reservoir to help dissipate the heat.

And when you cycle a shock like this, it's going to get hot.

Now it's Ian's turn.

Good luck, buddy. You're driving.

I hate it when he does that

driving. This thing is honestly almost like driving a hovercraft across a racetrack

on that radio,

the suspension travel is phenomenal and when it did bottom out harder, you know what's gonna happen,

the additional shock is easily absorbed by the suspension seats

when it comes down hard.

The only thing that's stopping it

is a little bit tire scrub.

That's all you hear. You don't

and you got a little bit of bottoming out, but that's it.

You don't have any more.

That's just tweak a little more from last time. And that's just because you're coming down really hard.

You feel the shock. It's, it's working.

Oh, it's working. All right. You come down. The only thing honestly is you got the, the drop bracket for that front, lower control arm,

it hits,

but it does not bottom out. It doesn't kick it, doesn't, it just

all you hear is when the tires rub,

you know, it's done. Compressing.

Congratulations. Thank you. Well, I mean, you are the one that deserves it. Congratulations. This product is, I

think Greg

and

there we go, Greg

to do with it

from what we put the truck through, you know, brand new,

brand new Ford, really, brand new truck.

It's, it's performing like a built tough truck or a built built

Baha truck. It works great a

lot.

Does it a hard core test out here at Colorado off road Extreme and a great truck. Build in two days. What do you think, Jessi? This is so much fun. I almost don't want to go back to the shop.

Yeah. But you know what? We had a great time at the 40 Parts Denver truck fest. It would have been great just to be there without building this truck and the truck itself. It's just insane. We love it.

Thanks to 40 Parts and Pro

guys did an awesome. Is there a big round of applause? That's right, guys. Good job. All right.

See you.
