2024 Toyota Tacoma Confirms That It Will Be Available with Manual Transmission
The next-gen 2024 Toyota Tacoma is probably the worst-kept secret in the entire auto industry. While the automaker has not officially revealed what the entire pickup truck will look like, it has been leaving a trail of breadcrumbs for what fans can expect. Some teasers have suggested that the 2024 Toyota Tacoma will be available with an internal-combustion engine, as well as a separate hybrid powertrain.
Before we bear witness to the next-gen 2024 Toyota Tacoma in its entirety, the latest teaser just may also be its most exciting. That is because in a press release from the company, this popular pickup truck will be keeping the tradition of the stick shift alive. “Legends are more than automatic; they always come in clutch. The all-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma, available with a six-speed manual transmission.”
This comes as big news considering that almost every major midsize truck manufacturer has gone 100% automatic transmission. That is except for Jeep with its line of Gladiator pickup trucks. Even though a new midsize truck with manual transmission is certainly a niche market in 2023, it is fair to say that it will also be highly competitive.
2024 Toyota Tacoma: What To Expect
The 2024 Toyota Tacoma is rumored to be equipped with a 2.4-liter turbo four-cylinder engine, which is a significant upgrade when compared to the current generation’s 3.5-liter V6. For comparison, this smaller engine can produce 265 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque in Toyota’s new Highlander without any help from the battery. Meanwhile, the current Tacoma’s V6 produces 278 horsepower and 265 lb-ft.
While we have yet to see the 2024 Toyota Tacoma in full, the automaker has dropped some tantalizing features prospective buyers can look forward to. Toyota revealed that the next-gen Tacoma will have a hybrid TRD Pro version, a Trailhunter outfitted for overlanding, a detachable Bluetooth JBL speaker, and four-wheel disc brakes. By the time the truck’s final reveal, we will learn more of its engine options, tech specs, etc.
