A New Unmodified McLaren 720S Runs In The 9s
Who says you need a million-dollar car to break records? Not McLaren! They have shown that their $350,000 McLaren 720S can put out a time that shows up the $900,000 all-wheel drive Porsche 918 Spyder AND manages to hang with hypercars like the McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari. Pretty impressive stuff for over under half the price.
Of course, this is just one run and there are several other comparisons that can be made but we like to think that’s a fairly decent time for the latest model in McLaren’s Super Series line. The 720S puts out 710 horsepower and has yet to disappoint anyone that’s gotten behind the wheel. The car managed to fly down the strip with a time of 9.79 seconds and a trap speed of 147 mph. That’s getting it done!
A factor that probably helps push this car over the top for speed is the fact that it weighs in under 3,200-lb. curb weight, which is about the same weight as a Mazda3 hatchback, for reference. The next test will be if someone can manage to get some hypercars together with the 720S, take them to the track and see who comes out on top when it really comes down to it.
