When Iron Brake Calipers Are Better Than Aluminum

The brake experts at Alcon build their truck brake kits with cast iron calipers. Their choice is based on two factors: strength and fitment. A heavy vehicle like a pickup or SUV requires greater clamping loads. If the caliper housing isn’t strong enough, it can’t handle the additional stress and fatigue.

Aluminum calipers must be made with plenty of material to compensate for those loads. More material means a larger caliper. Cast iron is stronger than aluminum, so you can make a caliper that can handle the same loads but is smaller, stiffer, and lighter. That means an Alcon brake kit with iron calipers eliminates any possible fitment issues without compromising strength.

Improve Your Bronco’s Handling and Ride Comfort

You too can have a Ford Bronco with a well-controlled suspension when you swap to Bilstein B8 8112 Zone Control CR DSA+ coilover shocks. All those numbers and letters deliver position- sensitive damping with three compression zones and two rebound zones controlled by three independent shock pistons. The technology provides excellent ride comfort under everyday driving conditions and maximum control when off-roading. Bilstein even added user-adjustable low- and high-speed compression settings and an internal compression stop to better control bottom-out.
