Car Theft Group Stormed a Michigan Dealership, Making Off with 13 Vehicles

A car dealership in the Metro Detroit area became an unexpected battleground in the early morning on Monday, November 14th when a group of approximately 30 people stormed the business to steal 13 cars. The security guard on duty found himself exchanging gunfire with the suspects. Thankfully, he was not hurt.

“Fired shots at him, he exchanged gunfire with those suspects. They were able to get into vehicles and drove through the gate, damaging other vehicles on the way out and were able to get away,” Flint Police Chief Terance Green told FOX 2 Detroit.

Flint police believe the group is part of an organized car theft ring based in Detroit and are still investigating the incident, hoping to identify the suspects involved.

Seven of the thirteen stolen cars were recovered by police in Oakland County and Detroit.

Among the stolen vehicles was a 2022 Ford Mustang that resulted in a fatal crash on southbound I-75. The driver of the car, whose identity has not been revealed, died in the crash.

Flint Police Chief Green says that these types of groups will travel from other parts of the state to target these kinds of dealership lots.

The incident resulted in a shelter-in-place order at nearby Oakland University, with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office under the impression that the suspects who stole two Dodge Durangos may have been armed and hiding on campus. Instead, the suspects fled the area.
