Classic ’34 Riley Sports Car Restored After Being Burned In Barn Fire
After a terrible barn fire and years of work, Roger Fountain and his vintage car “Phoenix” are back on the road.
Fountain, 77, rescued the 1934 Riley sports car after it was ruined in a barn blaze. He is a retired rally driver with a love for cars so he loaded the remains onto a trailer and drove it to his home to begin the restoration.
By some stroke of luck, the chassis survived the fire. So Roger was able to build a prototype around it using wood, cardboard and scrap metal.
The restoration took over five years for Fountain to search out the missing parts and bring the car completely back to its former glory.
After it was completed, Fountain named the car ‘Phoenix’ in honor of the car’s remarkable transformation.
