Convertible Pickup Roof Patented By Ford

A convertible option may be available in the future on Ford pickups, according to a report by Ford Authority. The automaker has filed a patent for a removable roof designed to work with pickups. This is something new as Ford has never offered a factory-built convertible version of any of its F-Series or Ranger pickup. The automaker did, however, team up with ASC to build a handful of SkyRanger convertibles, pictured below.

The patent shows an easily installable structure with self-articulating brackets and clamps that secure it to the windshield header. Also shown is the ability to accommodate a sliding rear window or a removable central roof panel.

As far as which vehicles this may be applied to, there are rumors that there will be a pickup version of the upcoming rebooted Bronco introduced.
