DeLorean Shares Sneak-Peek at Revived Alpha5
At long last, the DeLorean Motor Company has shared official images of its revived Alpha5 EV on its company website. Of course, it wouldn’t be a DeLorean without paying tribute to its iconic gull-wing doors that made a statement back in the 1980’s.
“We will continue to apply our rebellious DNA to shape our vehicles and constantly push the boundaries of what’s possible,” the company wrote on its website. “We are writing our legacy in real-time. Instinctively adapting to the future with a heightened curated experience. Rooted in counterculture we confidently embrace the unexpected.”
It should also be known that the company behind the Alpha5 revival is not exactly the same one that was responsible for the original DeLoreans, which went under in 1982. The new DeLorean Motor Company once supplied replacement DeLorean parts to older units. In 1995, they acquired the official rights to the brand.
So other than a modernized version of the Back to the Future vehicle, what can potential customers expect from the Alpha5? For starters, as an EV it is capable of reaching 60mph in 2.99 seconds. For anyone wondering, it can reach 88mph in 4.35 seconds.
The Alpha5 is rumored to be equipped with a 100kWh battery, supplying a range of 300 miles and a max speed of 155mph. The automaker suggests that these tech specs can be found in the default performance model.
One might also notice that the Alpha5 boasts a smoother, curvier concept in contrast to the sharp, angular design of the DMC-12.
There is no official release date for the DeLorean’s return, but fans can expect to see its official reveal on August 21st at Pepple Beach.
