Elon Musk Calls For More Oil Output After Soaring Gas Prices
Elon Musk has been one of the top voices calling for renewable energy, reducing our carbon footprint, sending humans into space, and developing some of the most powerful AI (artificial intelligence) in the world.
But recent events stemming from the Russia/Ukraine war causing the price of fuel to reach record highs has Musk calling for the U.S. to increase its oil & gas output. “Hate to say it, but we need to increase oil & gas output immediately. Extraordinary times demand extraordinary measures,” says Musk.
While he is aware that this goes against Tesla’s interests, current renewable energy technology will not be enough to satiate energy demands and gas prices in the short term. “Obviously, this would negatively affect Tesla, but sustainable energy solutions simply cannot react instantaneously to make up for Russian oil & gas exports.”
According to data by GasBuddy, the U.S. national average for regular gasoline has risen to $4.20 per gallon. This data also suggests that even though EV owners aren’t paying as much to fully charge their vehicles, they too are also negatively affected by the fuel crisis. Shipping and freight vehicles will continue to depend on fossil fuels for many more years, and higher gas prices will also affect the prices of food, goods, and services.
