Family Crossing The Street Narrowly Escapes Being Hit By Drunk Driver
This family was too close for comfort. A couple pushing a stroller were crossing a busy intersection when they narrowly missed being hit by a drunk driver. After the driver blew a red light, it looked almost for sure like the family was in trouble. However, the drunk driver was T-boned at the last second by an oncoming car.
The entire accident was caught on a traffic-light video in Phoenix. The couple and their son were making a left-hand turn onto the street when a Jeep Renegade, clearly speeding, enters the intersection never stopping for the red light. It appears as if the Jeep is headed straight for the family when a black Chevy Cruze comes into the intersection from the left and T-bones the Jeep, which ultimately saves the family and gives them time to escape.
Ernesto Otanez Oveso, 28, was arrested and charged with a DUI along with aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a firearm after a gun was found. Oveso reportedly attempted to flee the scene but was stopped, only after pulling a knife on a witness.
Shannon Vivar was behind the wheel of the Cruze and said she was headed home with her mother and son. Before she knew what was happening, she heard her mother yell after seeing the Jeep running the red. Thankfully, she only suffered minor injuries.
