Fiery NASCAR Wreck Takes Out Logano, Patrick, And Almirola

This weekend at the Kansas Speedway, Joey Logano lost control and turned into Danica Patrick which resulted in a fiery crash that also involved Richard Petty Motorsports driver Aric Almirola.

Luckily, Almirola only suffered a compression fracture of his T5 vertebra, which is in the middle of the back, in Saturday night’s three-car accident. However, the driver is mobile, recovering well, and has been released from a Kansas-area hospital since the crash.

Almirola was airlifted to the hospital after an incident during Lap 199. Something broke on Joey Logano’s car which then sent his #22 Ford hard into Danica Patrick’s #10 Ford. Both drivers’ cars smacked the outside wall, but Almirola couldn’t slow down fast enough and ended up slamming into Logano’s car.

Immediately after the crash, Almirola dropped his window net letting the crew know he was okay. But he was pulled from his car and placed onto a headboard before being taken to the hospital. He flew back to North Carolina on Sunday.

There’s no word yet on how much time, if any, Almirola might miss with the injury and the crew said any further updates will be provided as they become available.

NASCAR released the full statement from his team:

“Aric Almirola, driver of the No. 43 Richard Petty Motorsports Ford, has been released from a local Kansas hospital and will fly back to his home in Mooresville, N.C. today.

Almirola suffered a compression fracture to his T5 Vertebra after a multi-car accident at Kansas Speedway Saturday night. Almirola is mobile and will follow-up with his doctors in Charlotte.

Richard Petty Motorsports will provide further updates when available.”
