Ford And GM Have Reported First US Coronavirus Cases
The first US cases in employees infected with the coronavirus COVID-19 have been reported by both Ford and GM. The GM employee is located in the Warren product development center and the Ford in Dearborn.
While the GM employee was based in the Cole Engineering Center, it’s being reported that an unreleased number of co-workers who may have come in direct contact with the individual have been directed to self-quarantine for two weeks.
The Ford employee was infected while working remotely, is under quarantine and poses no threat of exposure to other workers, according to a Ford spokesman.
These are not the first automakers to see the virus affect employees. Last week, a Fiat Chrysler’s employee located at the Kokomo, Ind., transmission plant tested positive for the virus and was placed in quarantine along with several employees who came in contact with the individual.
All three automakers have initiated work at home programs in recent days for employees who do not need to be in the office to perform their jobs.
