Ford Is Recalling 185,000 F-150s
If you own a model year 2021 or 2022 F-150, this may pertain to you. Ford has reported that it is recalling 184,698 trucks after it finding that “underbody heat and noise insulators may loosen and contact the aluminum driveshaft, which could damage the driveshaft and cause it to fracture” which could potentially result in a crash.
From the original letter to the NHTSA:
Problem Description:
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2021-2022 F-150 vehicles. Underbody heat and noise insulators may loosen and
contact the aluminum driveshaft, which could damage the driveshaft and cause it to fracture.
Consequence:
A fractured driveshaft can cause a loss of drive power, or a loss of vehicle control if the driveshaft contacts the ground. Additionally,
unintended movement could occur while parked if the parking brake is not engaged. Any of these scenarios can increase the risk of a
crash.
Ford will begin contacting affected owners at the end of January and dealers will inspect affected trucks and “properly attach” the underbody insulators if needed, for free. At the time of this article, Ford is not aware of any injuries or accidents related to the problem.
