Man Buys Late Dad’s Police Car After Accidentally Finding It On eBay
A retired cop car has found its final home and a special one at that.
Greg Barnett was browsing eBay when he ran across a 1978 Vauxhall VX90 painted like the patrol cars from his hometown of Durham, U.K. The car looked oddly familiar to Barnett so he looked at it a bit harder.
Barrett’s late father, Barrie, used to give high-performance driving instruction in for the Durham Constabulary, and it turns out the car listed online was the exact car his father drove.
While scrolling through the images, he noticed expense sheets for gas and oil with his father’s name and handwriting on them that were left in the car.
Barnett contacted the seller and the man told him that he had purchased the non-running car awhile back from a government lot and that he had spent his time in lockdown restoring it to roadworthy condition.
Naturally, Barnett got the car back. He paid 9,000 pounds (approx. $11,500) 13 years after his father’s death.
