Tastes in music, food, movies, and fashion are different for each generation. What was once cool in the ’80s would be viewed by today’s standards (remember the hair?), and the same can be said about today’s trends being viewed by future generations (*cough* Crocs! *cough* *cough*). The same can be said about each generation’s preference for car models. Some models may resonate with only certain age groups, while there are others that retain mass appeal across multiple generations.

In a report by Business Insider, the vehicle registration data compiled by S&B Global Mobility showed some popular trends in car models based on certain age groups.

Most Popular Car of Gen Z (18 to 24 years old): Toyota Camry

The Toyota Camry received the highest rank among Gen Z drivers. Other vehicles that Gen Z appears to favor include the Toyota RAV4, Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, and Chevrolet Silverado.

Most Popular Car of Younger Millennials (25 to 34 years old): Toyota RAV4

For the younger half of Millennials, utility seems to take more priority in their vehicle choices. The most popular car model for Millennials aged 25-34 years old was revealed to be the Toyota RAV4, and some of the other top-ranking vehicles include the Chevrolet Silverado, the Ford F-Series, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and the Ram full-size pickup truck.

Most Popular Car of Older Millennials (35 to 44 years old): Chevrolet Silverado

With the older end of Millennials aged 35-44 years old, tastes begin to shift into more variety, with the Chevrolet Silverado being the most popular model. Other vehicles that older Millennials appear to be fond of include the Ford F-Series, Tesla Model Y, Ram trucks, and the Toyota RAV4.

Most Popular Car of Gen X (45 to 54 years old): Chevrolet Silverado

Taste in vehicles for Gen X appear to be identical to those of older Millennials, as the Chevrolet Silverado is also the most popular model with this age group, as are the other runner-up models like the Ford F-Series, Ram trucks, Toyota RAV4, and the Tesla Model Y.

Most Popular Car of Younger Boomers (55 to 64 years old): Ford F-Series

Pickup trucks are immensely popular in the U.S., and they continue to remain popular from Millennials to Boomers, with the Ford F-Series ranked the most popular among the younger end of the Boomer generation. Other vehicles that Boomers between 55 and 64 years old favor include the Chevrolet Silverado, Ram trucks, Toyota RAV4, and the Honda CR-V.

Most Popular Car of Boomers (65 to 74 years old): Toyota RAV4

For Boomers aged between 65 and 74, a car that has been a recurring model among other generations on this list ranked top with this generation, is the Toyota RAV4. Other vehicles that ranked high with Boomers include the Honda CR-V, the Ford F-Series, Chevrolet Silverado, and Chevrolet Equinox.

Most Popular Car of Pre-Boomers (75+ years old): Chevrolet Equinox

The Pre-Boomers (aka “The Silent Generation”) are individuals aged 75 years and up, and according to the data, the Chevrolet Equinox was the top-ranked registered vehicle in this age group. Other popular vehicles for Pre-Boomers include the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Ford F-Series, and the Chevrolet Silverado.
