Musk Says Tesla’s Pickup Will Be Cheaper And More Durable Than Ford’s F-150

In the “Ride the Lightning” podcast hosted by Ryan McCaffrey, Tesla founder and CEO, Elon Musk stated that “You should be able to buy a really great truck for $49K or less” and that Tesla’s pickup will start at exactly that.
Musk also made the bold statement that Tesla’s soon-to-be-unveiled pickup truck will be a better truck than a Ford F-150 and it will outperform a Porsche 911.
If the truck does end up starting at $49,000 it will undercut the trucks that electric truck maker Rivian (who is working with Ford) plans to offer next year by $20,000.
Musk stated “This will be a better truck than an F-150 in terms of truck-like functionality and be a better sports car than a standard 911. That’s the aspiration.”
With all that being said, Musk didn’t say which version of the F-150 he was comparing the new Tesla with. Ford has several F-150 models and prices vary enormously. The Tesla truck is expected to be unveiled later this year.
