In a surprising turn of events, one of Oscar Mayer’s iconic Wienermobiles found itself in a precarious situation on a Chicago highway. The hot dog-shaped vehicle was involved in an accident on Monday morning along Interstate 294 near Oak Brook, a suburb of Chicago. According to Illinois State Police, the Wienermobile collided with another car, causing the driver to lose control and overcorrect, which ultimately led to the vehicle flipping onto its side.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported following the incident, but the crash did result in the closure of the right lane of northbound I-294 for over an hour as authorities managed the situation.

A spokesperson for the Oscar Mayer brand, known for its fleet of eye-catching Wienermobiles, expressed relief that everyone involved in the incident was safe. “We are grateful that everybody involved is safe and there were no injuries,” the spokesperson told the Chicago Sun-Times.

Footage from the scene captured the yellow and orange Wienermobile being transported away on a flatbed truck, with visible damage to parts of the vehicle. Despite the mishap, the iconic Wienermobile remains a beloved and quirky symbol of American pop culture.
