Patrol Cars Totaled After D.C. Officers Drag Race On Public Street
Usually, the cops are the ones shutting the drag races down not participating in them. Although this isn’t the first report of police drag racers it definitely catches people’s attention.
Earlier this week, two Washington D.C. police officers “totaled” their patrol vehicles while racing down Anacostia Avenue. Keep in mind the speed limit on Anacostia Avenue is 25 mph. Local news Fox 5 DC reported that the officers were traveling around 60 mph at the time of the accident.
“Yesterday two 6D scout cars were totaled because officers decided instead of fighting crime, patrolling their beats, or engaging the community – they decided to drag race each other on Anacostia Avenue at 5 pm in the evening,” 6D Commander Durriyyah Habeebullah wrote in an e-mail.
It’s being reported that the officers involved were “new to the department” although that doesn’t make up for the lack of common sense. The officers didn’t just damage their own property but also a nearby fence on the property of a local homeowner.
While only two vehicles were damaged, four officers were injured and taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. At the time of this article, Habeebullah says that there will be “discussions about speeding and driving recklessly with officers” as far as punishment is concerned.
