Porsche’s New All-Electric Taycan Is Now The World’s Most Powerful Sedan
Tesla has a new competitor. Porsche has unveiled its new Taycan and it’s being called the world’s most powerful sedan. It’s the automaker’s first all-electric car and was released Wednesday morning.
If you think the 4-door sedan resembles a Tesla, you’re not the only one and it’s roughly the same size as a Tesla Model S.
The first models in the new series are the Taycan Turbo S and Taycan Turbo. They are at the cutting edge of Porsche E-Performance and are among the most powerful production models that the sports car manufacturer currently has in its product range. Less powerful variants of these all-wheel-drive vehicles will follow this year. Deliveries are scheduled to begin late this year with the top of the line Turbo and Turbo S versions.
The Taycan Turbo S accelerates from zero to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds, while the Taycan Turbo completes this sprint in 3.2 seconds. The Turbo S has a range of up to 250 miles, and the Turbo a range of up to 280 miles. The top speed of both all-wheel-drive models is 160 mph.
The Taycan is the first production vehicle with a system voltage of 800 volts instead of the usual 400 volts seen in most electric cars. This is a particular advantage for Taycan drivers on the road: in just over five minutes, the battery can be recharged using direct current (DC) from the high-power charging network for a range of up to 62 miles.
The Turbo is rated at 616 HP and can crank out up to 670 HP and 626 lb-ft of torque in bursts when launch control is engaged. The Turbo S has the same base horsepower but has a max power output of 750 hp and 774 lb-ft, which technically makes it the most powerful sedan in the world.
Prices start at $154,660 for the Turbo and $188,960 for the Turbo S.
