Report: Ford Could Bring Mustang Mach 1 Reboot In 2021

The rumors are circulating and this one seems to have some credibility (although not confirmed by Ford). Last year, Ford announced it was putting the Mach badge on the new 2021 Mustang Mach-E SUV, and people were not happy.

Now, it’s speculated Ford may badge another, more appropriate vehicle with the name. The Mustang6G.com forum posted an alleged VIN decoder guide that lists the Mach 1 coupe as one of the Mustang models coming in 2021. While Ford has not commented on the document, it also hasn’t denied its authenticity.

The Mach 1 was the best-selling of all Mustangs and American pony cars in 1969, the year it was first introduced as a performance model that slotted below the Boss 302 and Shelbys in 1969. It continued through the Mustang II era in 1978.

The name was revived from 2003 to 2004 to help usher out the fourth-generation Mustang, including retro Mach 1 logos.

It’s speculated that for the 2021 model, it will be powered by a version of the Mustang’s current 5.0-liter “Coyote” V8, but the power output is listed as TBD.
