Small Pickups Aren’t Getting Good Safety Ratings

The Insurance Institute for Highway safety is always reviewing vehicles and giving out ratings. Already about 100 vehicles have received a safety award from the IIHS in 2017 and small pickups are nowhere to be found on the list. In a recent round of testing, the agency looked eight small trucks and found a few flaws.

IIHS rated the crew cab and extended cab versions of four different models: the Toyota Tacoma, Chevy Colorado, GMC Canyon, and Nissan Frontier. And all they found was that these trucks offered nothing but poor headlight rating, which stopped them from earning a Top Safety Pick award. On the bright side, half of the trucks performed well in all five crash categories…just not high enough to earn an award. Pickup truck guys, are you surprised by this or think your truck should’ve made it?
