Speed Camera Tickets Soar With Increasingly Empty Streets
Data has shown that there are fewer people on the road amid the Coronavirus crisis, as to be expected. However, the drivers that ARE on the road aren’t exactly following the rules of the road.
New York City, in particular, is seeing an increase. It’s reported that red-light cameras caught 180,718 speeding drivers between March 5 and March 24, which is a 12.3% spike compared to a similar period.
It’s estimated that during the crisis, traffic volumes have dropped 35 to 50 percent since the first week of March which means the rate of speeding is possibly double what it was before.
