Tesla Took A Shot At Porsche’s New Track Record
Earlier this month, Porsche unveiled its new Taycan which is being called the world’s most powerful sedan. It’s the automaker’s first all-electric car.
Naturally, Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, didn’t take to fondly to that. Musk tweeted that Tesla had something in the works – Plaid Mode. You may have heard or Insane and Ludicrous mode but Plaid mode out-performs both of those. It’s expected to be available in about a year and will use three electric motors rather than the two.
If you’re thinking the names Plaid Mode and Ludicrous Mode sound familiar, they are. They’re taken from the 1987 movie Spaceballs, directed by Mel Brooks.
Porsche set the record for the fastest lap ever by a four-door electric car on Germany’s Nürburgring with the Taycan running it in seven minutes and 42 seconds.
Just days later, Musk tweeted that a Model S equipped with new Plaid Mode had set an unofficial record on California’s Laguna Seca track. The Model S lapped Laguna Seca in 1:36.555 during advanced R&D testing of the Plaid powertrain and chassis prototype — a second faster than the record for a four-door sedan.
