The Tesla Model 3 Is Now The Most American-Made Car
If someone asks you what the most “American-made” vehicle or automaker is, you probably jump straight to Chevy, Ford, or GM. However, that’s not the case anymore.
According to the Cars.com American-Made Index for 2021, the Tesla Model 3 has been ranked number one, marking the first time an electric car has taken the top spot.
The survey takes a look at several factors including the final manufacturing location of the vehicle, its parts, and the jobs created by its production. In addition, components sourced from Canada are included being that they fall under the criteria of the American Automobile Labeling Act.
Tesla sold approximately 206,500 Model 3 sedans in the U.S. last year and while yes, Teslas are also built at its Shanghai factory, all of the models sold in the U.S. are sourced from California. The Michigan-made Ford Mustang coupe came in second. Last year’s number one Ford Ranger dropped to 28th this year largely in part to s change in parts content.
