This 825-Horsepower Widebody Shelby Super Snake Speedster Is Insane

It’s been a hot minute since Shelby’s Super Snake last slithered around the streets. After six years from Ford’s renewal of the Mustang, the Super Snake has returned from hibernation, in both convertible and fastback forms. However, the Super Snake shed its skin in that time to reveal something different – the Super Snake convertible will be strictly a limited-edition Speedster, and quite possibly the nicest S550 on the market today.

The Super Snake Speedster does this by swapping its rear seats for a tonneau cover and gives you the option for a harness bar. It also achieves the look of a European exotic, but in the form of a pony car. Let’s not forget, it IS a Shelby, meaning style isn’t all it claims.

It provides enthusiasts with performance too by serving up a Whipple-supercharged 5.0L Coyote V8, which leads to a monstrous roar from its Borla exhaust. That’s not all – the 825-horsepower offering is available in either a manual or automatic transmission to the rear axle, allowing the snake to leap from zero to 60 in a mere 3.5 seconds.

A car this fast needs to stop somehow, and a set of Brembo brakes will shift the weight forward on a returned Ford performance track suspension, or the optional Penske set up. Both configurations sit on Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, coupled with 20-inch forged aluminum alloys.

You won’t have trouble identifying the car as extensive Shelby badging and optional stripes are present on the exterior. The interior is dotted with Shelby motifs on the door sills, floor mats, and gauges. As you’d expect from other Shelby’s, the dash boasts a serial-numbered plaque.

In honor of the legendary Carroll Shelby, who would have been 98, Shelby is strictly limiting availability on the Shelby GT, GT500SE, and Super Snakes to 98 apiece in the United States. That’s with one exception – the Speedster will only sell 25. As legendary as the car is, it has a legendary price to match – if you can get one, it starts at $133,785. Happy hunting!
