The AMC Javelin likely tops anyone’s list of under-appreciated and overlooked muscle cars, which is why Detroit Muscle decided to take on the project to get in touch with their muscle car roots. The AMC Javelin screams ’70s style. With its exaggerated fender flares and unique look, the guys couldn’t think of a more fitting project to take on.
They decided to stay true to its roots and keep the iconic 304 V8 intact with a little help from Engine Power, and more than doubled the horsepower output over stock. Fuel injection was added for drivability, efficiency, and performance to bring it into modern times. Even more, there’s nothing better than the set of side pipes to keep this ’70s Javelin in the ’70s.
The AMC also received an updated transmission from Gear Star, a set of trusted EBC brakes for stopping power, oversized Crager Wheels for that iconic appearance, and a candy paint scheme supplied by Summit Racing. Once the guys finished up the paint, they set their sights on upgrading the rear suspension by changing out the old air shocks with a set of Monroe Max-Air Shocks from Summit Racing.
Not only will this Javelin turn heads with its loud side pipes, belting out a raucous V8 exhaust note to complement its pretty red cherry paint, but it’ll also travel comfortably on its upgraded suspension and keep the past alive.
